RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

My first total solar eclipse. It was truly breath taking. I've seen another one since then but the first one was truly special.

I caught the 2009 total eclipse here and it was awe-inspiring. It was also the longest solar eclipse expected for the 21st century at 6 minutes, 39 seconds, so it made a deep impression on everybody standing on the roof of the apartment block to watch it.

I don't wish to see a second, though, because the next one will be in the year 2200 and that would mean I'd still be alive in 200 years. Not something I want.

Seeing aurora borealis on new years eve.

I've seen the Aurora Borealis hundreds of times. (Living in the high arctic does that to you.) But I have heard them only once.

I'd like to hear them again.

The ‘golden needle’ penetrated the veil of my mind. This is a term for a brief moment of enlightenment.

I once solved a Zen koan and experienced just such a moment. It was a spiritual, emotional, and physiological experience.

A koan is a zen riddle which can’t be solved by logic. Probably the most famous example is ‘what is the sound of one hand clapping’.

I want to see Cats, on stage, live, again.

Re-visit some places. Prague, Tartu, Kyoto come to mind.

And I would kind of like that "new love" feeling again, except it would either get messy or be preceded by unpleasantness or tragedy.

I've experienced this like 3 to 4 times in total but the first time you fire up a new toaster makes this smell like nothing else and I find it extremely pleasant. It's just impossible to replicate.

Having a family.

Niagara Falls. I'd like to take a solo trip, go at my own pace and stay however long I like. I found the sound and the view so soothing, I wanted to stay all day and read a book or draw sketches, just do the things I normally do, but at the falls.

Also gay romance 😩
