@itsfoss@mastodon.social That's what I think about such #protonvpn "reviews":
Privacy
Everything about privacy (the confidentiality pillar of security) -- but not restricted to infosec. Offline privacy is also relevant here.
@itsfoss@mastodon.social I only use #MullvadVPN and it works for me - unlike #protonVPN.
The main issue with proton is that I cannot exclude some apps. Usually I have a 3 browser setup: Tor Browser for general reading, Mullvad Browser with VPN for services where I login and Firefox for sites without VPN (like online banking). Just create a *.desktop file to run "mullvad-exclude firefox" and it works.
With Proton I would have to setup a VM for non-vpn browsing.
@itsfoss@mastodon.social My experience with their new GTK app is mostly fine. I’ve not had any crashes or issues that prevent me from using it. The app is now included in the Arch Extra repository which is cool.
It did occasionally “forget” that I was signed in. Contacting support was a waste of time; just giving me the standard “Arch is not a supported distro” line. The AUR package was using the Ubuntu deb package 🙄
They should work on improving the startup; it takes a few seconds before anything is usable.
