I'm going to stick around and fight like hell

tuesday was the last hope. we are living the worst-case scenario and it's not going to get better. figure out what you need to do to get out of the country NOW. you have a little less than 2 months

Not everyone will have the resources to do so. Don't throw these people to the wolves.

In order to help everyone: Start mutual aid networks. Help your siblings and build dual power from the ground up.

agreed. if you can't leave, then you really need to start organizing. covertly

[–] LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 week ago

You're right that leaving is your best bet. That isn't a reality for millions of queer people, however. Leaving isn't always feasible, or many of the queer people still in deep red states would already be gone.

It's time for us to make moves to prepare ourselves to contend with this administration and political agenda. Networks need to be made, connections between suppliers of DIY hormones and communities at risk of losing Healthcare need to be established.

As much as we need to help people get out, we also need to confront the fact that not everyone can, and this is the reality we live in now. I'm just saying, "Get out while you still can" isn't enough. We need to ready ourselves for a much more long-term fight against this system. Everyone who can should be getting involved.

Pick countries that are geographically distant from maga land.

Australia could use more Greens/Labor voters. Please come dilute the LibNat vote.

The same issue still arises, that the people who need to immigrate most, cannot afford to and won't be allowed into our country. If you want to change that, get your arse down to your local MPs office and push for asylum status for trans americans.

Uh, I don't think Canada wants to have a bunch of disgruntled Americans immigrating up. The Americans as a whole broke your country and you have to live with that and push for better turn out next time instead of just invading into another country.

better turn out next time

LOL it's astounding to me, that people still think there will be a "next time" for voting

Pssh, I'm from Canada, I say let the gays come on up. Gays, make sure to check out where you're moving to though. We're always importing american politics, and you couldn't pay me to visit Alberta right now.

Why don't you want to support your fellow humans when they're being repressed? We're in a comment thread about an article where the newly elected administration is telling people that they want to criminalize and punish people because of their orientation and expression.

Project 2025 says that being in drag is a sex crime against children, and that pedophiles should be punished by death. Read: trans people should be put to death.

If your heart isn't open to asylum seekers, then who is it open for?

It's unfortunately very difficult to up and immigrate to Canada. You typically need a spouse who is a citizen, or have a very valuable skillset to offer. I believe you can come here as a foreign worker and apply for permanent residency after working full-time for a year, but I don't know what the stipulations or rate of acceptance is there.

I personally immigrated here from the States back in 2017 to be with my wife, and the process was grueling. They require a lot of evidence to prove the relationship was not initiated with the intent of immigrating.

They will let them in if they meet the qualifications as usual. But they have limited slots and favor people who fit needed careers. Like medical, tech, etc. additionally, a chunk of savings is usually desirable.

Canada won’t complain about getting a ton of extra highly trained people working remote jobs bringing in money as long as they are not dependent on social services.

But… there are a ton of Americans and not a lot of Canadian housing.

There’s a whole South Park episode about that, if I’m not mistaken.

He tried hiding from it to get the "latinos for trump" vote.

Point out that other people are in charge, not him, and he will torpedo it. His ego will not tolerate people saying he's a puppet.
