"The real concern driving CEO resistance is the fact that remote work involves a previously unthinkable change in the way productive activity is structured and organised. If workers can do without the physical presence of managers, perhaps they don’t need managers at all, at least in the way they currently operate. The eagerness of CEOs and other senior managers to wish these changes away suggests that, at some level, they realise this."

My kid is going camping with friends this weekend which is a little sad because the dog will miss her but gee it's gonna be one hellva party when she goes.

Was given the day off today (didn't want it, or tomorrow, but we're quiet ATM) so I thought I'd make the best of it by using uneaten strawberries to make jam. It's still cooling but it seems ok. Also waffles

Idk about any of you. But $35 to get into the Royal Melb Show to pat and feed the sheep and goats was 100% worth the price of admission.

The piglets, deer, llamas, and rabbits were just so dang cute

Woke up early to pick up the new Zelda.

Bought some food and self maintenance stuff. Marvelled at the Cinderella experience set up.

Also had a haircut too. Feels nice to have it cut and all neat now.

Lunch has been had and now have my coffee.

I feel like I want to take out my bins but it feels too early

IT'S HEEEEERRREEEEE

Despite having spent ~280 hours on the series, I've still only seen 2 of the episodes in the box set

(Yes they're VHS tapes)

Sometimes I think about running away to a foreign country and starting again with a completely clean slate.

Circumstances of late have forced me to think about old jobs and the horrible things I went through and it's quite triggering.

Sounds like you've got a lot of the past to let go of. Speaking as someone who dragged the past around like an anchor for far too long. Even if you were to go overseas, you can't escape from you. I hope you can one day find a way to let go of it.

Already have one fence dispute (or more specifically Unreasonable flow of water between properties) for the shed up the back. Neighbour came over a few weeks ago and couldn't see a problem. She got the council to come over and look at it FROM HER SIDE and didn't give me the heads up so they could look at it from MY SIDE. Tried calling the council several times at least take a squizz but to no avail yet.

Definitely no problemo there. All they have to do is remove a little bit of soil from their side and let it dry out over summer and put in a little retaining wall / moisture barrier.

Now the other fairly long / high paling fence on the same boundary is collapsing (really fkn wobbly). re-doing the veggie patch so have a heap of old redgum sleepers. Propped it up heavily on my side so when / if it falls it's not falling my way hah.

[–] indisin@aussie.zone 8 points 4 days ago

Oh no. Oh no.

Chillies have germinated far too fast and I haven't even calculated the amount of soil I'll need to pot what I can. It's also too cold outside for them in Northcote. This is a disaster.

It's local council voting season and I'm getting over seeing signs of the same three people plastered all over my hood. In front of houses, shop windows, street corners, you name it. Does this really get you votes?! I see their faces and I get angry, not wish to vote for them.

This whole taking a break from working thing is doing wonders for my mental health and sleep but that sleep is happening at really weird hours.

I survived the green cookie incident. I think I’ll stick to baking my own. Need to find a good salted caramel white choc cookie recipe …..

The time has come - I've listed my beloved car for sale. She's been amazing fun, but I just can't justify it anymore. Yes, I'll cry when she goes. Of course, I adore my new car, but it's a bit of a brat while my old car was a beast.

Tell me about your favourite cars? What did you love about them? Have you still got them? Or a a favourite car related story?!

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

My 2003 Honda civic. Never skips a beat. plan on using that until it carks it.

On the posh side the old man's newish BMW 440i. So much tech in that thing a lot of it is useless, like choosing how loud you want the engine start noise to be, changing colour of the led strips, the auto motorised seatbelt, changing the screen to sport mode to see how many g's you're pulling, using the centre console button as a touch mouse for the sat nav. Impressive and fun but ridiculously pointless.

Good night everyone, sweet dreams. 😘

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 5 days ago

I have completed the first part of the physical activity study I am part of, and have the first of my $50 Coles vouchers. I have been allocated to the control group, which means I am required to do nothing different to what I do now, and will be paid $150 for it! Can't complain about that πŸ™‚πŸ’°

I have not bought or eaten any biscuits or lollies in 4 weeks. I'm starting to get out of the habit.

πŸ™‚Today I bought the last of the materials I need to restore the cabinet and frame of my old sewing machine. It's about 120 years old and it's a functional machine so it has a lot of knocks, it looks old. I got medium grade steel wool to clean the iron up as the hardware store didn't have wire brushes and I got paint which included primer. A new paint brush with an extra long handle for those hard to get at bits. I'm quite excited to get it all done. It won't look pristine or even great but it will look good. Next I might tackle cleaning up the machine inside. I have a new belt to put on and I have machine oil and rust remover. Might even touch up some paint.

Also bought some good dark furniture wax to protect the newly painted big chairs and the sewing machine cabinet.

I have loads of microfibre cloths for these jobs.

I found out that I only needed to press one magic button on the Spotify app and it would've turned everything on for me. AUTOMATICALLY. Holy moly.

And now he wants to show me how to sync the lights. This too much.

Happy Cassowary Day πŸ˜€

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago

Here is my photo of a cassowary from Perth Zoo

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

In honour of such an important day I share the one photo I managed to take of my own close encounter with a cassowary many years ago.

Leaves. Mostly leaves.
