They don't sell the steam deck in Australia?

No, and it took years for the index to make it down officially too. One of the reasons I remember hearing was that for any warranty or repairs the detective unit would've had to have been shipped all the way to the US and back again which can easily be some $100 in postage for the round trip.

Eventually it became available thru EB Games (think Aus Gamestop) who I imagine can act as a intermediary and send units up in batches rather than one at a time

EB Games?? They were in the US for a while until Gamestop bought them iirc. Used to have an EB Games in my local mall like over a decade ago.

Well there you go. We also have Woolworths, Target, and Kmart still more or less thriving (certainly more than their northern brethren)

They don’t, but irritatingly, when one of its accessories are on sale Steam will pitch it to me.

Huh, TIL. Are any of its competitors like the Legion Go or ROG Ally available?

Why don't they sell the deck in Australia? Does it stop working when you turn it upside down or what?

Assuming you want an actual answer, supply lines and distribution. We didn't get the index for ages either until EB Games took on the distribution.
