It seems you could just quickly rinse cans and bottles before putting them in recycling to avoid this problem.

In Norway these machines are inside stores. Some even have sinks, and most have wetnaps for when you're done stuffing the bottles in.

Seems to be tough that some deterrent would be best, like a sound playing that is not audible to humans, but for wasps so they stay away....

Or just have a habit of washing bottles, which might be best, because the machines in Norway can get so sticky that the conveyor belt stutters and gets stuck.
