What is global news?
Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.
Post guidelines
Title format
Post title should mirror the news source title.
URL format
Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefix
Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title.

Title and associated content has to be in English.
2. No social media posts
Avoid all social media posts. Try searching for a source that has a written article or transcription on the subject.
3. Respectful communication
All communication has to be respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.

6. Off-topic tangents
Stay on topic. Keep it relevant.

To be fair, a good chunk of the US military budget does go towards scientific research. It's just not public.

Agree, but you still might be surprised. Back in high school I was paid minimum wage to catch bugs with a butterfly net for a few hours a day, for a team of biologists studying insect behavior. It was funded by the military, but the research was incredibly basic and far off from being directly usable in a military application.
Big badda boom
Sure. Now convince Russia and China to go first, because I'd rather not sacrifice Ukraine and Taiwan and quite possibly the Baltic states.
And Kazakhstan, and Moldova, and who knows where else if they can spin their genocide in Ukraine as a success and keep going.
Okay Japan is... not a good comparison for research given their academia is floundering.
