This is great news. Thanks for sharing. The timing is spot on, since I'm going back to SteamOS from a ride on Bazzite that could have gone better.

If you don't mind sharing, what kind of issues did you run into with Bazzite? I've been considering switching for awhile.
Nothing that would break gaming. Having to forget and pair again my controllers is the most annoying one. Also, when waking up from sleep, it would not accept the HDMI display (LG TV), and I had to reboot. Also, one decky plugin I regularly use (BT Wake Control) crashes before even starting. Outside these issues, everything else (that I use) works just fine.
Pretty much all of those have been issues with regular steamOS at different points. I have to toggle bt on and off for some of my controllers to connect, but I've learned that other people have been forgetting and repairing to fix the same issue. The HDMI issue was a problem some months back, but has been fixed (at least on the beta update channel). The recent steam client beta was causing crashes with some plugins, and the newly released bt wake control was one of them.
I don't know exactly how long you were using Bazzite, but it's possible that all the issues you've run into were upstream issues that made their way to Bazzite unfortunately.
I has it for 2 weeks and the last update I did was on Saturday night, and the issues remained, so I just went back to SteamOS. Of course, being the Linux kangaroo that I am, I'll certainly take it for a spin again in about a month or 2.
What's the chance of using this plugin without a steam deck? I'm using arch and I run steam in big picture mode.
It's probably possible, I know Bazzite has working steam deck plugins so it's possible to get Decky plugins working on non-steamOS distros.
However the easiest way for SteamGridDB specifically is to use Boop, which is a tool they make for changing artwork on windows and Linux desktops.
Thank you, this is perfect.
