Sunday, March 17, 2024 - Green Shave

  • Prep: hot shower
  • Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
  • Razor: Gillette Aristocrat (1948-50)
  • Blade: Durablade Sharp Hi Chromium (3)
  • Lather: Stirling – Sharp Dressed Man - Shave Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling – Sharp Dressed Man - Post Shave Balm
  • Color Theme: Green

In honor of the most holy of holidays, St. Patrick's Day, I have shaved with as much "green" as I could today: green handled brush, blade in green colored packaging, soap & balm in Green Irish Tweed dupe, soap & balm in green containers, and green hand towel for cleanup.

Southern Witchcrafts

  • Brush: Dogclaration LG 2022 Mystery Brush (B16)
  • Razor: Wolfman WR2 (1.55 mm SB / 1.25 mm OC)
  • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts and Chatillon Lux – La Forêt de Analingus for Excellence in Shitposting
  • Aftershave: Southern Witchcrafts and Chatillon Lux – La Forêt de Analingus for Excellence in Shitposting
  • Fragrance: Southern Witchcrafts and Chatillon Lux – La Forêt de Analingus for Excellence in Shitposting

I'm very likely naive, and Barrister and Mann is a Juggernaut for good reasons, but I'm hoping for the first upset in this tournament. SW doesn't just produce some of my favourite wetshaving software, but its association with u/phteven_j makes it feel more like a "home brand" of our sub. When I joined r/wetshaving, ptheven was one of the most active people on the sub, and his LG portal likely saved the Lather Games in 2021 (my rookie games which I really enjoyed).

Let me whisper of a dream of a NO-SW semifinal 🤞.

Great shave, unsurprisingly. SW's base is top notch, La Forêt de Analingus for Excellence in Shitposting is objectively the best SW (and Chatillon Lux, shout-out to u/hawns, too) scent in that it has had gushing reviews by an astounding 100% of its users, the Mystery brush is pillowy perfection and the WR2 is a mild BBS machine.

Having said this, BaM is another pillar of the (in this case) wider wetshaving community, with a bazillion scents and great performance. One really can't choose wrongly today.

I take it you won EiSP one year?

Yes, 2021, the last one

March 17, 2024

  • Brush: AP Shave Co Strawberry Cream 26mm G5A

  • Razor: J.A. Henckels Friodur 472 13/16" Full Hollow Square Point

  • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts - Gravefruit II - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

  • Aftershave: Wholly Kaw - Hiatus - Aftershave

  • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Following my underdog strategy as far as I can. Once again, I think the favorite (BaM) will take the day, but I hope that Southern Witchcrafts puts up close numbers.

I hope that Southern Witchcrafts puts up close numbers.

They did for a while, but it looks like the Juggernaut is pulling away :

I like to tell the story about when I invited myself to Steven and Courtney's house when I was first starting out with wetshaving.

I only had samples up to that point, but wanted to buy my first full tub. It was during the pandemic and my job was on thin ice, so I wanted to make my $16 count. They let me come smell all they had to offer, and I walked out with a tub of Lycanthropy and a few free samples they graciously threw in. They even offered to sell me the last new tub of OG Gravefruit on earth, which I declined after smelling.

It was really nice of them to let me into their home and smell their stuff, and Lycanthropy did not disappoint. They discontinued it, though, and I'll never forgive them.

SOTD 17.03.2024

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: Wilkinson Hydro 5
  • Blade: Hydro 5 cartridge
  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin w/ 26 mm Flattop/Fan hybrid
  • Lather: Proraso - Wood & Spice cream
  • Post Shave: Phytorelax Headshave ASB

Hi folks, long time no post from me.

Unfortunately, the internship has worn me down quite a bit. I feel mentally drained and barely have time for any hobbies anymore... The work is extremely exhausting and trying to cram a lot into the weekend is not working out too great.

Long story short, the Wilkinson Classic broke and I had to get a replacement at the local drugstore. I went with a Hydro 5, but I feel how it's rather irritating on my scalp. Even though it's a nice cartridge razor since the gel reservoir can be easily removed. If there would be a 2-blade cartridge with no lubrication strip/gel stuff I'd be really happy. Something like the BIC disposables, but more eco friendly and reusable...

Hope you're all well. I certainly look forward to my last week here...

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I used to like lube strips, but now they just get in the way of my soap 😀

I use 2 blade carts that technically have lube strips, but they are very "mild" so I didn't notice it. They're discontinued I think, but sometimes available on eBay here in the US. Cien-Men is the brand, which I think is a Lidl brand. Maybe you can find some where you are!

[–] DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 7 months ago

Yep, I feel like the lube strips were developed due to the shortcomings of canned foam/gel.

I was able to get a Hydro 3 cartridge pack that's compatible with the Wilkinson handle, I hope they'll do the trick. The problem are also the five blades, I guess - way too many for me.
