Well that's certainly a war crime. Wonder if the rest of the world will look the other way on this too.

Oil is involved so... yes.:-(

Remember the Republicans in the USA are still salivating over how to stop funding to curb Russian aggression while simultaneously wanting to fund Israel.

We went from being one step away to joining with Ukraine to now being one step away from joining Israel.

What oil? Golda Meir famously said this:

Let me tell you something that we Israelis have against Moses. He took us 40 years through the desert in order to bring us to the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil.

If there is one thing this part of the world is notorious for - other than its eternal conflict and importance to three world religions - it's how remarkably poor in terms of natural resources it is.

I mean Gaza has offshore natural gas.

[–] DdCno1@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It does, it's a rare exception, but they were neither known back then nor have been exploited yet.

Interestingly, Israel was brokering a deal between Egypt, the PA and Hamas for exploitation of this field. It would have resulted in energy independence for Gaza and a significant income stream for both Hamas and PA (or more realistically, the offshore accounts of the leaders of both governments). As far as I know, it was close to being finalized, with ongoing negotiations until October 7.

It'll never happen now, of course.

Why negotiate for rights when you can just conquer and take?

[–] DdCno1@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

That's a weak point to make. Israel could have exploited these fields without a ground war in Gaza.

They're just doing it so blatantly so they can show everyone they can get away with it. It's the same reason Putin kills his rivals in ways that obviously implicate him, he wants people to know it was him and nobody can do anything about it.

It would be a war crime if against a state actor but the rules have been defined so that it is legal against non-state actors.

This is wildly fucked up. Why are they literally using terrorist tactics?

Check out the r/worldnews thread. Example:

So let me get this straight.

Israel bombs hospitals to target Hamas terrorists. Everyone hates that because of the indirect casualties to civilian lives and direct damage to precious infrastructure.

Israel then does targeted attacks inside hospitals and ensures only Hamas terrorists die with very minimal damage to anything else. Everyone hates that because "they didn't do it right."

So then how are they supposed to get into hospitals to take these guys down? Is it a free terrorist shelter now? Is everyone inside a hospital safe from retaliation?

They want praise for only committing like three separate warcrimes instead of blowing up the already occupied hospital.

[–] 52fighters@sopuli.xyz 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Hamas is a non-state group which creates a loophole where this rule does not apply. 🤷‍♂️

[–] gnuhaut@lemmy.ml 21 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Ah yes, the famous non-state loophole, where you can just shoot people in their hospital beds and it's not a war crime. Just because someone is not part of a regular state military does not mean they have literally zero rights. Also dressing up as a doctor or nurse is a war crime. The occupation itself is a illegal as well, they shouldn't even be there.

DeAtH sQuaDS aRe lEgal acKsHuAllY!!! Fuck off.

  1. It is not illegal to assinate terrorists.
  2. It is not illegal to dress as a doctor or nurse.
  3. There is no occupation, only conquered territory. The lands were lost when the Arabs invaded Israel and lost. Israel should incorporate non-citizen Arabs into Israel and I believe it will eventually happen.

They seem to become more desperate now. Everything that they do will return to them someday.

[–] PanArab@lemmy.ml 15 points 10 months ago

This is a war crime. Israel is a pariah state

[–] purplepuppy@links.hackliberty.org 10 points 10 months ago

This type of actions are done on purpose to blurry the line between civilians and army so no one knows who is who. Everyone is paranoid so hamas kills more civilans, so Israel government can kill more civilans in retribution. Over all, Isriaelly goverment will win, since they are backed by US and they will take over all the land from Palestinians.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 9 points 10 months ago

All the shocked Pikachus in here that never watched Munich.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago

Wait, how can they disguise as women?

Aren't there any women in the Israeli forces?

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 5 points 10 months ago

Hey, a real example of evil being done by people in drag.

Wtf is a "Jenin cemetery"? Does every new jihadist splinter group get a cemetery?
