So the mug is the best choice by far, due to its universe-breaking abilities surrounding temperature. Setup a Stirling engine on that for infinite power.

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 10 months ago (5 children)

I do have to admit it's a bit disheartening to post that pic, and then people react to it by looking how to use the objects to 'hack' the nature of reality.

[–] Isoprenoid@programming.dev 57 points 10 months ago (1 children)

OP: "Hey, guys! Here are some objects that hack the nature of reality."

Posters: *Uses them to further hack the nature of reality, just in other ways*

OP:

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Kind of, lol. But you can see the difference in the type of hacking. The objects are only meant to hack your own, private reality. That's what the picture is meant to address, that aspect of our lives that can't be translated into external and/or mechanical utility.

Besides, the issue of energy scarcity that the replies are working off could be fixed or at least minimised through realistic technological and political/economic solutions, with no need for magical objects that defy the laws of physics. But no law or real invention can be guaranteed e.g. to give you good dreams.

[–] Isoprenoid@programming.dev 5 points 10 months ago

The objects are only meant to hack your own, private reality.

So they induce a kind of psychosis? Ah, sweet. Man-made horrors beyond my comprehension. 😜

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I mean, that magic candle single handedly gives hope for reversing universal entropy. Everything else might be personally fulfilling but that thing could be the key to preventing the heat death of the universe.

Which would be pretty personally fulfilling too imo.

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 3 points 10 months ago

Universe schmuniverse, I just want to smell my theatre days! 😛

[–] HatchetHaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

mein freund, some of us prefer to focus on extracting the most material value out of these hypothetical objects, simply because we want to. it's fun to imagine the possibilities with the infinite energy from the candle and the mug.

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

material value

I think that's the point that they're making: it's supposed to be about which object of immense EMOTIONAL value would make people the happiest, and then a lot of people make it about their material value in stead.

As much as I understand their disappointment, though, Lemmy of all places is so full of nerds and geeks (said with love as a geek myself) who know a lot about technical stuff that it was pretty much bound to happen..

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes, thank you :D (I mean, of course I'm exaggerating a bit by claiming I'm disappointed, it's more of a... "conceptual" disappointment)

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

I was in a band called Conceptual Disappointment. We had excellent stage design, but the music was mediocre at best.

[–] UpperBroccoli 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

So... Conceptual Disappointment was actually Practical Disappointment?

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 3 points 10 months ago

You know concept albums? It was a concept band where the concept was disappointing everyone involved.

I agree. And thank you for the heartwarming content ❤️

[–] variants@possumpat.io 4 points 10 months ago

That was my realization when I invited people to my minecraft server and saw people dig a whole and breed cows just to kill them for xp, while I was over there giving them grass and water and a nice fence

They need to buff the candle. Stress is almost impossible? Lol watch me.

[–] snowe@programming.dev 25 points 10 months ago

Candle that never burns out means fire in a vacuum. Pretty powerful stuff.

[–] Devonian@lemmy.blahaj.zone 33 points 10 months ago (3 children)

favorite mug is the best for breaking the laws of physics and generating infinite energy - though the blanket and the candle also have infinite heat, the mug would be the most versatile, as you could fill it with a super-hot liquid, then treat it like an RTG, generating electricity from the temperature difference between the mug and its environment. use the mug as your spaceship's power supply, and you'll never even need big honkin photovoltaic panels !

[–] I_am_10_squirrels 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Candle. Infinite energy, plus no stress.

[–] Bonsoir@lemmy.ca 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

How does one recuperate the energy from a candle to transform it to something useful? Also, would it's output be enough to power anything meaningful in a reasonable time anyway?

This is the right answer

[–] Bonsoir@lemmy.ca 6 points 10 months ago

With the blanket you can walk on the sun though. (Assuming that you won't get crushed by gravity)

[–] Befernafardofo@feddit.it 5 points 10 months ago

I love how this post was meant to be cozy, and the first thing you think of is breaking reality.

I would pick the candle!

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 28 points 10 months ago

... Where do I buy this bear?

I got a lot of emptiness

[–] HatchetHaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 10 months ago (2 children)

the mug and candle are just free energy

If I was a fae creature, I'd get the endless candle so I could lure people to my hut in the forest and they would not get a sense of danger at all (assuming everyone around the candle can also feel the effects by smelling it)

Take the blanket, move to Antarctica with laptop and star link, never be bothered again.

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 10 points 10 months ago

If not for the "almost", I'd have chosen the candle for sure, but as long as it's not COMPLETELY impossible, my ADHD/anxiety combo is GOING to find something to stress about.

So yeah, I'm going to go with the treasure stone and hope people don't get the wrong idea about me fiddling in my pocket at high pressure moments 😁

[–] Th4tGuyII@kbin.social 10 points 10 months ago

The others have cool abilities, but I'd take the Treasure Stone - I'm anxious when it comes to confrontation and speaking, so something I could hold onto to make me more confident in myself would be a godsend.

[–] Jentu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The fact that the pillow won't help my awful insomnia (or help you fall asleep in general) makes it so close to being the best choice to me, but it falls short in the most frustrating way.

treasure stone, because I struggle so much with self-esteem.

I almost chose the cuddly thing because sometimes social anxiety eats my insides and then I feel empty and need a friend to hug. But I also think that the treasure stone would help with that too because then I would be brave and more comfortable with being by myself for that moment.

[–] milkytoast@kbin.social 7 points 10 months ago

bear easily

[–] Serz 7 points 10 months ago

I spend 1/3rd of my life asleep, and the pillow would guarantee that third is good and memorable. Absolutely the pillow.

[–] urfavlaura@lemmy.ml 6 points 10 months ago

the mug so I can put plasma in it and boom infinite energy

[–] Mrderisant@midwest.social 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

My treasure stone is a flask

[–] loops 4 points 10 months ago

With nice, cool water in it right?

...right?

[–] Rozauhtuno@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 10 months ago

Though choice, but I'd take the stone.

[–] Quexotic@infosec.pub 5 points 10 months ago

The pillow. I would have peace. Probably wouldn't stop sleeping though, then lose my job.. hmmm maybe not.

Tough call.

[–] glassofwater369@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago

I am choosing all of them and you cant stope mwhahah

[–] bl_r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I’d kill for that mug if it could also keep drinks cold

I make iced lattes every morning and use a mug for it, and I’d kill for it to stay cold for more than 5 minutes without adding so much ice it becomes weak

[–] TheOakTree 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Leave your mug in the freezer for a few minutes before you make the latte!

[–] bl_r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

That sounds like a good idea, but I’m also worried about pulling a shot of hot espresso and shocking my beloved mug.

[–] TheOakTree 4 points 10 months ago

This is a good consideration, glad you have the foresight to think of that. Wouldn't want your mug exploding before work!

[–] name_NULL111653@pawb.social 3 points 10 months ago

Get a metal barista pitcher, keep it in the freezer too. Add espresso, sugar if desired, frothed milk. Stir until cold, pour over ice in the cold mug. The perfect iced latte.

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 10 months ago

I literally have a heart shaped treasure stone. The weight is really grounding.

[–] FluffyPotato@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

I already have the bear so I'd go with the blanket. I'm always just a bit too cold.

[–] Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

For the memes, the candle of infinite burning, for the comfort, blankie.
