Onionket 5 is This Weekend, August 19th and 20th
The 5th Onion Comic Market (or "Onionket") is coming up this weekend, and the event catalog is available for everybody to browse now. Over a dozen artists, writers, coders, and more share their work with the world, free from the fear of censorship.
Onionket is a decentralized, censorship-resistant online doujin/art festival hosted exclusively in the Dark Web. Onionket gives artists a SIMPLE, FREE, and CENSORSHIP-RESISTANT way to distribute their work. Using an open-source program called "OnionShare", each artist creates and hosts their own simple .onion website on the Tor network. Onionket collects and publishes a catalog of these links, allowing others to browse and access them.
Each site is totally under the artist's control, making censorship impossible. And being on the Tor network means heightened privacy for fans and artists alike. Many artists also have support links and wallet addresses for Monero and other cryptocurrencies, should any followers feel like supporting their work.
There's also the official Onionket 5 Livestream, hosted on PeerTube on Saturday, August 19th, from 2pm to 4pm, and again from 9pm to 11pm JST. Chat with circle owners and other participants will be available in the live window, as well as an OnionShare-powered Tor chatroom, a Session Closed Group, and an XMPP chatroom over Tor provided by our friends at Libreshack

The Onionket 5 catalog is now available on our main site, as well as mirrors on a noJavaScript page, a Tor onion site, and an i2p eepsite. Check out the circles, and if you see something you like, feel free to visit over the two days of the event.
Join Onionket, and together we can say NO to censorship

As much as I like the use of Tor, Monero etc I can't help but think this is just marketing for a bunch of child molesters to distribute sexualized drawings of small children. That's what this is, right? Besides using monero, which is just like using cash, how is this relevant to the Monero community?
@mister_monster Given the Monero community is made up of individuals, I'm sure each one of them will be happy to make up their own minds about how relevant this is or is not. But if the Monero Town administration asks us not to post here, we'll happily respect their wishes.
Our personal feelings are that Monero is the best choice of privacy-respecting online digital currency, and we encourage its use as part of the event. The Onionket Mitra, which factors into the event, is also set up to use Monero exclusively for monthly subscriptions... we are essentially an XMR powered Patreon for our participants. I imagine that would be of relevance to the Monero Community as well:

With regard to your other implications, users of privacy software are no strangers to being accused of drug-dealing, pedophilia, and worse. As such, no offense is taken. Just to be clear, though, Onionket has a set of rules for all participants which are clearly posted on our About page:

We have neither the ability nor the inclination to police the lives of participants outside our event, but we make a good faith effort to screen all participating content, and exclude anything that falls outside of said rules. If we find any clear violation of individuals' rights in the process, we would forward it to any relevant authorities and make this fact very clear. After 5 events, this has never become necessary.
Thank you for sharing your views in this matter, however.
I agree that this is off-topic, next time post to !darknet@monero.town or something similar. Regarding the content itself, per German constitution:
TLDR: Artistic freedom is guaranteed. CSAM laws say drawings are fine. Conclusion: You are free to advertise your event because I don't have to go to jail. Just don't post it to !monero next time.
@admin Understood, we'll make sure to use the appropriate community in future. Thanks for the clarification.
While the baltics won't raid my house and seize my electronics, I'm not so sure that the Germans wouldn't anyways if I were to host extremist content. Media is actually hosted in Germany again (surprisingly better legal situation than the balitcs).
Weren't you hosting this server out in the baltics? Why are you still beholden to the german """ laws""" ?
This isn't about your use of Monero, this is about your plain as day advertisement of your interests. You're acting like my implication (it was more than an implication, I used plain, candid language) follows from your use of Monero or comes out of the clear blue sky. This is absurd. It flows from the content on your site that you are advertising.
I'm very aware that drawings are victimless, fictional and so no harm is done. I don't think it should be illegal for you to draw them and share them. But I'm also not stupid and am free to make my own judgments about people using my own intellectual faculty. If I took bets about the sexual proclivities of the fans of this type of art I'm certain I'd come out financially ahead. I'm sure there are naïve people out there who buy the whole "it's just art" line. My interactions with you don't lead me to conclude that you're a naïve person.
The admin of this site is free to make his own determination about whether this is relevant, which is why I brought attention to it.
I can see your point + I know nothing about this OnionKet thing. Generally, though, afaik, Dōjinshi is not a kid porn, abusing real-life, existing children. Those stories are typically based on manga/anime, where characters are totally fictional, unrelated to real-life children at all (thus no real victims, except ethical questions are still possible). In some countries, drawings of non-existing (fictional) persons may be still illegal. In some other countries, they're legal (as in Finland, maybe). That's what I think, though not too sure and I'm not a dōjinshi writer/reader at all. Honestly, not sure how "bad" they are.
But generally, it's a nice thing that creators try something new, something experimental, fighting back against excessive, censorship (not to say, it'll be absolutely good, though).
@onionket_staff@mitra.anon-kenkai.com よく分からないけど、うまくいくといいですね^^ 弾圧の口実を与えないように、あまりにアレなのは排除した方がいいかもみたいな気もするけど。。。とりあえずグッドラック♪
Oh I'm aware that it's victimless, entirely fictional and so not morally wrong. But it does tell me something about the individuals who partake and so I am free to make my own judgments about people. I think, if I took bets that the individuals who enjoy it also would (or do) enjoy children sexually I'd probably come out ahead financially. I don't like those kinds of people.
Besides, I still fail to see how it's relevant to discussion about Monero.
True. It's not much related to Monero. OP only says, "Many artists also have support links and wallet addresses for Monero" i.e. "accepting donations in Monero" which is nothing notable. (Many devs accept donations in XMR.) If they like Monero, that is good (though nothing more)...
