/r/telescopes or any equivalent for practical astronomy. There are a couple of communities but they're not active at all.
oh yes! I used to love astronomy when I was younger. I don't have any dark sky any more, but I'd love to find a smaller scope or binoculars that I could travel with when I escape the city and have a chance at good viewing.
Getting dark sky is very challenging. I live on the outskirts of a city so I usually load up the car and drive. It's a shame but, at the same time, telescopes weren't always so affordable!
I started with binoculars and still use them to take on holiday (the telescope is way too big) and you can have a really great night with them.
