MODERATORS

Hi everyone,

As an introduction I wanted to let everyone here know my mindset, which i'm sure is very similar to a lot of people already in here.

I believe that superstonk started out as a great community but overtime has become more and more compromised. I think the goal of mods right now is to put superstonk in a box with no windows, with the intent of severely limiting and eventually eliminating the spread of information surrounding GME and booked DRS.

I think what they're doing is extremely obvious. The rules regarding brigading, not being able to link users, no cross-posting, it all screams censorship. The server limitation of knowledge spreading to others who may not know about GME and DRS has kneecapped the growth rate in shareholders and DRS.

On top of that, DRS posts with fractionals, garbage TA posts, news posts highlighting the downside or short sellers instead of buyers, to name a few, all hit and sit on the front page. I think this is another form of distortion to confuse and emotionally trigger shareholders or would be shareholders.

Going forward, I think what Miller has done, creating drsgme.org is a fantastic solution. It strips out moderator control and provides straight forward information. It takes the stupid out and keeps the serious.

I think that to get the next big bump in DRS numbers each shareholder should talk about Gamestop to friends, family, co-workers, strangers at the bar...anyone who might be interested. I think that talk about how the system is corrupt, not fair etc has been talked about to death, and instead each shareholder should focus their energy on talking to other potential shareholders, because that's exactly what superstonk has put a cap on.

I realize that sounds all very serious, and I'm probably preaching to the choir here lol, but hey, just want to let everyone know what I'm about!

Wholeheartedly agree with the overarching sentiment of this post. DRSGME.org is simply a better resource for newcomers than Superstonk was ever going to be. You need digestible information and a clear layout to introduce people to these topics. Superstonk was always better for deep dives, inside jokes and peer review, non of these things are conducive to 'introducinf new apes' and with the latest restrictions we aren't really working for OGs and peer reviewers either.

I'm happy to be on Lemmy, sure it's small now but totally feels like old Reddit and I think we can all learn and strengthen from this latest migration.

There is definitely the opportunity here to build a stronger community going forward.

Superstonk is now over 2 years old and is aging like milk. It was a great community for a period of time, and served a necessary role where important information was discussed. But for a variety of reasons it is no longer serving that role the way it used to and so we must continue to adapt and move forward.

How many more years will this saga go on before the major event happens? And what about during the major event, what role can we expect Reddit and superstonk to take during that time? We can certainly expect a great deal of excitement and other emotions, it will be chaotic. Can we trust that Reddit will definitely guarantee our ability to have crucially important conversations during that period? And what about after the event and beyond? What role will the community of investors of GME play over the next 5 to 10 to 15 years?

Roughly 200 thousand individuals have directly registered their shares of GME, and this group of people will potentially wield a tremendous amount of influence in the not so distant future.

We simply cannot allow ourselves to get boxed in by a bunch of rules and restrictions and censorship that prevent us from talking about important timely information. We cannot allow anyone to treat this community as if it belongs to them just because they are the moderators of the largest subreddit where the community hangs out.

This Lemmy instance is the start of a foundation for future freedom, the creation of a new community in the fediverse where we will not be restricted by the censorship that is imposed on us on Reddit.

If the majority of us are all located in one single community, like superstonk, then all that needs to be done to control our conversations is to destroy or otherwise corrupt that single place, a single target.

In my ideal future, there are numerous Lemmy or other fediverse instances, e.g. 100, owned and operated by different individual GME shareholders, each instance providing an additional place that supports the important conversations that pertain to all of us. Each instance might have a specific topic of interest, maybe some are about generic business discussions, maybe some are focused on art, others on video games, etc., but each would be a place that offers space to discuss the interests of GME investors, whatever those interests become. Lemmy and the fediverse is very versatile.

Since in the fediverse, any user on any instance can communicate with other users on other instances, this would create an extremely resilient community environment. In this ideal future, because there would be so many different instances that all fundamentally share a common interest, no single instance would have the ability to corrupt or control the discussions that the larger community has. For example, if one particular instance started to censor certain topics of conversation for some reason, it wouldn't matter at all because there would still be 99 others that don't, and anyone could continue the conversation among those other instances. The very nature of this environment would in my opinion therefore disincentivize acts of corrupt self-interest because such acts would be ineffective wasted efforts. There would be no real ability to extensively censor topics of information in the way that we have witnessed happen on superstonk.

This is the strengthening of the community that I am aiming for, that I believe the fediverse offers to us.
