Sorry but I don't see the point in this. Seems like it would only be relevant for math nerds.
It's a fun thing to commit 10 minutes to, kinda satisfying too. It's fun to try to do a job that we normally expect computers to do, and it's cool to work collaboratively towards something bigger than yourself.
Yes but this is the kind of thing PCs are uniquely better at so it kinda feels like a waste of time. I prefer my collaborative efforts to go towards something which enrich the commons. That's just my take however you do you.
Also computer science nerds.
Wouldn't compsci nerds have more fun just writing a whole shader on their own?
