I've started listening to wheel of time! I'm digging it so far. I finished the first book a week ago and am a few chapters into the second
I tried so hard to listen to that audiobook but I could never make it beyond the first 10 minutes without falling asleep lmao. I'm talking dozens of attempts. Granted I always listen to audiobooks right before bed but I can usually make a little headway before I drift off. Something about that one was just impenetrable though.
Yeah I'll admit it starts pretty slow. And the first book doesn't have anything too too special for most of it, but towards the end it really picked up and I'm invested now. It helps because I try and do ~hour walk daily so I just listen then. Easy to get through at a decent pace
@chloyster
This is what we like to hear! Are you listening to the Rosamund Pike narrated books, or Michael Kramer and Kate Reading?
The Michael Kramer and Kate Reading ones!
I had just finished listening to all currently released cosmere stuff and I thought wheel of time was a logical next step with the audio book readers and with Brandon Sanderson writing the last few 🙏
@chloyster Hope to hear some of your thoughts as you’re reading through it. #WheelOfTime fans almost universally enjoy getting the thoughts and impressions of first-time readers.
Absolutely! I'll keep y'all updated 🙏
I've heard the middle few books can be kind of rough, but overall I'm super excited to listen to the rest!
@chloyster What I have come to learn from speaking to newer readers (mostly those that have started and finished in the time since the series was finished) is that those middle books are not as bad as they felt at the time they were first releasing. But yes, there is a point in the series where the cast and scope become so large that it seems to take a very long time for thing to progress.
Still, no better payoff in fantasy IMO.
Oooh good to know. That's nice to hear. I wasn't ever really worried about it tbh since I listen at a pretty regular 1-2 hours a day on walks. But some of my friends who have read it really played up how rough the middle ones were lol
