I wonder if there are any shared canvas things like this outside of Reddit? The idea is pretty neat.

There was a website that did this like 20 years ago. Hell if I can find it. Was called something like the one million project.

The Million Dollar Homepage. Some guy made a 1000x1000 canvas and sold every pixel for $1. Lots of dot-com tech companies bought little banners and stuff.
