Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

it was the early 2010s, i had just got my life back together after the great recession, but my laptop was in bad shape, and i needed it to work. I had heard about this linux stuff and dove in. I tried ubuntu and have been spending most of my time on various debian-based distros ever since. i confess i still keep a windows installation around for those one or two games that just don't play nice. But that list gets shorter every year.
Seriously considering never upgrading beyond windows 10. I'm on Pop Os but norbara looks better and better every time i look into it...
