It doesn't necessarily need to be "official". My alma mater has a subreddit that (unless it's changed since the protests) included several professors regularly participating. I could see a server being started up, for example by a linux or linux adjacent club on campus, and be maintained and moderated by a handful of students (with graduation serving to naturally rotate the positions of power).
