Dumb TVs, its either 1.5k plus or you will literally never find one. I don't wanna be profiled or have some stupid android is on it. All it needs to do is display images on screen.

If you never connect it to the internet.... It stays dumb.

[–] agoramachina@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago

Not necessarily, I've seen "smart" tvs that require internet to have any level of functionality :(

i shouldnt have to go out of my way for my tv to be a tv, these shitty spyboxes are known to test for open networks nearby to connect. You cant even "just dont connect it to the internet" with them anymore. And even then, you never know what these things are actually doing under the hood.

Yeah the smart ones are cheaper due to being subsidised by the sale of the data they can suck from them.

I've read that the keyword here is "hospitality" TVs, because I guess they're not usually smart TVs. I haven't tried this myself, though.

Buy large Computer screens

You can get a 50" Hisense dumb TV for about $300 on Amazon. The picture isn't as good as some of the other brands, but it's still serviceable.

wanted to check that claim but only saw smart tvs
