I've just pulled the trigger on a dock and I'm thinking it may be time to upgrade my external controller. I have a Logitech F710 which has been pretty decent for PC gaming and has worked well on Linux. I'm seeing the Xbox XS as a top recommendation. Is it worth the upgrade?

If you don't mind cords, I have had good success with a generic Beboncool brand controller. Similar in form and format to the F710, and about the same size but a little lighter. It's originally billed as a Bluetooth Nintendo Switch controller, but if you plug in a USB-C to it and your computer it recognizes it automatically and uses standard X-box controller drivers. It's also pretty cheap at around $20.

Not running on batteries is both a limitation and a blessing since you don't need to worry about batteries running out and instant response. But it does mean you've got more cords all over the place. If you've got a Switch though you can run it wirelessly.

I usually have some sort of issue with controllers (connection issues, driver/OS issues, etc.) but I've had zero problems with these.
