A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

If you just watch videos and don't comment or upload, what's the point of a YouTube account?

Just subscribe to channels using RSS

It's a pretty old internet tech, but often forgotten. Here's an explanation: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6HNUqDL-pI8&pp=ygURd2hhdCBpcyByc3MgZmVlZHM%3D

Essentially, if you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to YouTube channels, blogs, social media posts (specially on the fediverse), news, podcasts, subreddits, etc. And get them all in one place (instead of going to each website). Ironically, Aaron Swartz (one of reddit's founders) worked on RSS back in the day.

I recommend Feedly, as a starter RSS feed reader.
