Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I'm on an Android phone (Pixel 4a) and just updated to the latest version of Jerboa. Now, whenever I try to launch the app, it crashes. It shows as a running app, but trying to switch to it makes it crash again. Has anyone else encountered this?

So I need to wait for BeeHaw to upgrade to 0.18 before I can use Jerboa again?

I can understand not supporting very old versions. If Lemmy was on version 18, I wouldn't expect a client to still support version 1, but not supporting a 0.01 version difference seems like poor design.

Yes, Jerboa won't work until Beehaw updates to the supported version. I just tried clearing Jerboa data and signing in to Beehaw, and it wouldn't let me sign in. There were API breaking changes between 0.17.4 and 0.18, and Jerboa is doing what it can with its resources and previous design choices.

I agree it doesn't seem like a great design choice. This kind of thing is going to happen moving forward. Different instances will update at their own pace and may even decide to stay with an old version for a time to keep older features, like with 0.18 removing Captcha support. Hopefully this can be addressed by the app properly supporting multiple versions in the future but with the Jerboa devs also being the overworked Lemmy devs, that may take a back seat unless the community comes together to provide the backwards compatibility.
