For me I say that a truck with a cab longer than its bed is not a truck, but an SUV with an overgrown bumper.

As Tom and many comments in that thread point out, there are valid use cases for VPNs. If you want to obfuscate your traffic just enough to avoid copyright notices when torrenting, or to access a streaming service in another jurisdiction, then a VPN is the right tool for the job. Just don't expect it to meaningfully protect your privacy in any way.
