“We’ve never seen this before,” said Dave Campbell, the head of the forecast centre, in an interview with CHEK News Monday.

“We are really going to need to see wet weather and persistent wet weather for the next several weeks if we were to avoid significant drought for places like Vancouver Island for later this summer.”

Environment Canada tells CHEK News that wet and persistent weather is not coming in the near future.

Officials are asking people to conserve water now as we head into what could be a history-making drought season.

Not looking forward to this, but I guess it's the new normal for BC's climate going forwards... Likely to also increase the incidence of forest fires, I'd imagine.

as a cyclist sitting on the sidelines with an injury, all this dry weather and sunshine is killing me.

I hope you recover in time to enjoy it!

👍 working hard to push though.. If the stars align I may be able to participate in the annual Canada Day invasion of Hurricane ridge. Between injury and covid I have not done it since 2019 and it would feel so much like "back to normal" if I can make it, even if only part way up before my shoulder says nope.
