On fdroid the best I could find was Blockinger which was last updated 9 years ago. It seems to work fine on my phone, but I do wonder if there are any newer projects or improved forks that I can use. Thanks!

I mean, what exactly do you want to improve and maintain in tetris? Isn't that kind of solved problem?

The UI of Blockinger leaves a lot to be desired. The ability to swipe to interact would be a huge improvement over the buttons taking up half the screen.

I personally think that tetris without tactile buttons is not fun. But everyone's different, I guess.

Virtual buttons on a touch screen just feels like an artifact of an earlier generation of phone games. I have friends that play a lot of Tetris on mobile and all of their modern non-foss tetris games use swipe controls.

Okay, I didn't think of swipe controls. Yeah, that'd be feasible. Anything where you don't have to look at your fingers is good.
