Why can't they be evil like the villains on TV, cold, calculating, and with an actual motive?

Anyone smart enough to become Dr. Robotnik (Eggman to you whippersnappers) isn't evil Anyone wealthy enough to become Batman isn't noble, disciplined, or concerned with others.

This is why these are fictional characters.
