Nope, no on-screen message. it just stays black and that's it...
i tried direct-play and also tried hardware transcoding by just chosing for example 1080p; this for example works buttery smooth when i watch it on my PC or my tablet. I have a GTX1660 in that server that does hardware transcoding perfectly fine.
The 1080p version i loaded doesn't have HDR and doesn't work either. Also i can watch HDR content on that TV no problemo. For example John Wick 3 has the exact same video and audio codec and has DoVi HDR aswell. Plex on my TV (native app on samsung) uses HDR10 then without any hickup and flawless playback.
Regarding logs.. tbh i am not really good with the logs of plex. My docker container doesn't really show me anything besides that it started up properly. Where would i find the logs you ask for?
Logs would be found in the folder you set up for your plex config (not media) for example mine is in /data/docker/plex. I have found Tautulli is the easiest way to view logs for myself but not sure if you have that set up.
If I'm not mistaken, you can download your logs directly from the dashboard under manage > troubleshooting.
