Look at you pretending that Zelda's Adventure didn't blaze that trail back in the 90's. I don't blame you though. Not only was that game completely awful, but nobody bought the CD-i and I don't think the game is canonical (if anybody can make sense of the Zelda canon at this point). I only played it a bit via emulator, but it was too awful to play for very long.
