MODERATORS

Hello to all! I just wanted to let everyone in this community know about an NFL community that exists on another instance, !nfl@lemmy.ml. I made a post over there and I am hoping to get some of their users to crosspost over here so that we can start discussing some NFL news. There is also a list of NFL team communities that seem somewhat active in case you are looking for other fans.

My main goal with this post is to help facilitate NFL discussion on Lemmy, regardless of instance, since there are many people trying to escape Reddit and it can be hard to find the right community if you don’t know where to look.

As always, please let me know if you want to be a mod of one of our NFL team communities. I also have several college football team communities that will need mods as well!

Hey, just wanted to thank you for all the work you've put into filling out this instance! It hasn't gone unnoticed!

This is pretty much my line of thinking too. Instead of waffling on which instance I should try to create the baseball communities I wanted to see on lemmy, I decided to start fanaticus so people wouldn't have to make tough decisions. lemmy.ml specifically, does have an issue with load already which might be an issue going forward, especially with the amount of traffic the game threads get on reddit currently.

Additionally, given the recent Beehaw de-federation drama I think it was a good choice to make this sports-only instance. If we remain on topic, I don't expect we'll be affected by any de-federation. Users from all instances can come here to talk sports, even if they've de-federated from one another.

The thanks go to you for starting this instance! I joined Reddit to follow college football and when I found this instance I saw its potential to become the default hub for sports-related discussion on Lemmy.

Additionally, given the recent Beehaw de-federation drama I think it was a good choice to make this sports-only instance. If we remain on topic, I don’t expect we’ll be affected by any de-federation.

This is an important point that many Lemmy users might struggle to understand. I find the possibility of de-federation to be detrimental to the popularity/sustainability of this platform. That said, having an instance dedicated to sports talk will insulate us from potential Lemmy fractures resulting from conflicts between different instance admins. It would definitely suck to be a beehaw.org account and unexpectedly not seeing new posts/replies on !nfl@sh.itjust.works or !mlb@lemmy.world.

Thanks again for starting this all up and letting me add football/college communities here!
