I'm liking kbin more for the web UI than anything, but it's had some weird federation issues, so I might move one day.
I used lemmy.ml back when the lemmyverse was pretty much just pro-Russia tankies, it wasn't that great.
wait, lemmy instance can have custom ui's?!?
Lemmy and kbin are two different pieces of software that both implement the activitypub protocol in a way that they can federate with each other. So it's not just a different UI on top of Lemmy backend (which is also possible).
Yes, several instances offer this. Come to lemmy.ca and look in our sidebar for a few examples.
Kbin is a totally different app though.
