What exactly is executive dysfunction?

[–] PatatesChoux 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

From Healthline :

Executive function describes the cognitive skills, or mental processes, that allow you to do things like: -pay attention, -absorb, remember, and manipulate new information and sensory input, -stay on task and ignore distractions, -multitask, -regulate emotions, -monitor and adjust your own behavior according to new information or changes in your environment.”

And:

“Executive function skills fall into two main categories: Organization. You use these skills to pay attention to details, plan and strategize, solve problems, and think abstractly. Regulation. You use these skills to regulate behavior and emotions, monitor thoughts and input from your environment, reason and make decisions, manage time, and control impulses.”

So executive dysfunction is when one or more of these skills are affected.
