Mr Tusk's coalition won the elections in October but had not been able to take office until now.

Mr. Tusk’s coalition won in October with a record turnout of 70%.

Tusk aims to restore the independence of the judiciary, unblock €36bn (£30bn) of EU funds earmarked for Poland, reverse a 2020 court decision which banned abortion in almost all cases, and strengthen protections for LGBTQ people.

However, the President is still Mr. Duda, who has the ability to veto any laws or bills that come his way and Tusk’s Parliament does not have the votes to override a presidential veto.

So, my takeaway is that there will likely be some gridlock but I suppose that is better than the alternative.
