While there have been some random misses from auction houses, do you guys have any experience with decent auction houses to purchase vintage watches?

I'm on the lookout for a new watch that carries the spirit of my golden retriever companion. His puppy collar is a vibrant green, and I'm leaning towards a sporty design. My budget is up to $4000, and I'm open to pre-owned options.

I've been eyeing the Tudor BB Harrods, particularly drawn to its connection with the color green, but I'm uncertain about its size and chunkiness. My wrist measures around 6.5 inches, so any advice on whether it might be a good fit would be appreciated.

I really like the look of the Black Bays (I also eyed withe the red one on jubilee before). The Hamilton Khaki Expedition or a classic Speedmaster would also get my attention. Maybe that roughly explains my taste for the watch I’m looking for.

What are your thoughts on these choices, and do you have any other recommendations that capture the sporty vibe with a touch of that golden retriever charm? Your insights would mean a lot as I embark on this watch journey!

Thanks in advance!

I saw a picture recently of a watch that I wanted to research further, but now I can't remember any of the reference information.

There are two versions by the same maker, both with modified ETA movements. One has a round face with four complications oriented in a line horizontally below the center of the watch. The other has the same four complications oriented vertically to the right of center, with a more rectangular face/case. I think they are a relatively recent design, released in the 2010's, and I believe the brand is Italian.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Is it normal that my watch is almost 1.5 minutes ahead after only a day of using it? I'm new to watches but that seems a lot, wanted to use it daily but this is pretty annoying :(

Hello dear community,

I am about to make the decision to buy the Certina DS Action Diver 38mm, but I am still unsure about the color choice. I'm currently hesitating between the classic black and the eye-catching blue. Both options have their appeal, but I just can't make up my mind.

Do you have any experience with either of these colors or even with this particular model? What are the pros and cons? Maybe some of you even have pictures to help me decide?

I really appreciate your opinions and advice and would appreciate any help with this important decision for my new watch piece. Many thanks in advance!

I have a friend whose parents are from Bosnia and he's very proud of his heritage. I'd like to get him a watch from a Bosnian watch company but am having trouble finding any.

I was doubtful between a Eterna (Tangaroa automatic) and a Oris for my next purchase and...this factor made it a no brainer to go with the Eterna. But while that can be seen as a positive thing...why is Oris now making such beefy thick cases? They make post Swatch Omega look thin by comparison and that's saying something.

Sure for most people it will be fine...but Oris didn't use to have this issue back in the day normally. So what happened?

I am in other words asking why are their movements thicker. Is it because of the using of ETA and Sellita based stuff?

While on the topic, it's good to see Tag Heuer is going the opposite direction with newer releases coming out with progressively thinner cases

It is a 1952 Rolex Oyster Precision ref 6426, fully restored with its original dial and hands, no box or papers but includes a Rolex strap. I have it reserved for 3800 AUD or 2508 USD. Just wondering if this is worth buying as it is in very good condition, however has been heavily restored which might mean it’s worth less, what do you think about the price for this watch

I was given this watch recently and I want to be able to wear it with a 14k bracelet I have that’s sentimental to me. I’m worried about the watch or bracelet possibly scratching each other if I wear them on the same wrist though. I was wondering if I can determine the metal of the watch to see how hard it is in comparison to the bracelet. Also, it would be good just to know in general since I don’t know much about the watch. I don’t know much about watch markings, but I’m not seeing any metal hallmarks anywhere like I would on other jewelry. I’m also seeing some discoloration around the knob (sorry I don’t know what it’s called) that makes me think maybe it’s not gold since I’ve never seen gold tarnish like that. Thoughts?

Morning All

My son was recently born this so I decided to pick him up a watch for his 18th birthday. Ended up with a gold plated Tag F1 as there was a good deal available for it. The fact there was a deal was the only reason I did this now.

How on earth do I maintain this Tag F1 for 18 years?? It is currently fully boxed up with all padding and covers etc in place. I just want to make sure I give it to him in good working order. Haven't had to think about this with my other watches as I rotate what I have and wear them regularly.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hello fellow watch enthusiasts, a lot of people find smart watches another piece of useless tech for people to be constantly connected, I find my Apple Watch quite useful for the opposite - not needing to look at my phone and being able to filter notifications, mainly the ability to put my phone on silent and have my watch notify me when a call comes through.

I have been wearing 2 watches and feeling a bit silly, I tried looking into a ‘smart watch strap’ that I could put on my watches but couldn’t find anything nice.

Is this something anyone else has tried to look for or found, is it something nobody else is interested in?

My ideal product would be a something that keeps the aesthetics of the watch but can also hook into my phone.

Does anyone know what type of FM this is? I can’t seem to find a reference or even if it’s real.

Thinking what might be a good first mechanical watch for a 13 yr old boy?

  • He is into football (soccer)

  • He's part Asian

  • He's part German

The last two elements would be nice to consider but, not absolutely necessary

Thanks!

Which one to choose? I recently turned 18 and my grandma gave me 500€ for me to purchase my first nice watch. I narrowed it down to these two. Which one would you go for? Durability over time in a major factor and if you have other suggestions I'd be happy to read them! I am new to this community and horology so go easy lmao

For two years I managed to steer clear from thinkering or thinking much about watches. They've ended mostly sitting in the box, coming out only occasionally. As I've caught the bug again, I would like to commemorate the occasion with adding yet another one to the story (and dropping a couple out of it). Based on what I currently have, what would be your reccomendations for the next one? The budget is roughly €1,000 for a used piece, can be vintage modern or anywhere in between. I don't have a clear idea where to next so any ideas are more than welcome. Thank you all

I've accumulated a bunch of watches over the years, and I'd be keen to add a bit of colour to the collection. I was considering getting a yellow octagonal g shock or a more colourful strap.

I haven't seen my Grand Seiko (SBGE295) on straps yet, and really like how heavy it feels on the wrist, so I'm not that keen on putting it on a strap just yet.

The leather strap in my Certina DS Podium Big Size failed recently, which made me think that maybe it could work well with a yellow strap? Perhaps rubber?

I'm not very familiar with strap brands, so thought I'd ask here - what do you think I should get? The watch is 42mm in diameter, 11.3mm thick and has a 21mm lug width.

The collection so far - accumulated over 16 years

Hello everyone, for the past year or so I’ve been keeping an eye out for companies who are starting to put the LJP calibers in their watches. I’ve been dying for a new workhorse movement that has power reserve closer to 70 hours, beats at 4hz, and can be easily regulated due to lack of free sprung balance, unlike the powermatic series and kenissi movements.

Admittedly, adoption of the LJP calibers doesn’t seem to be happening as fast as I thought it would, and these models are somewhat few and far between. This is perhaps due to apprehension from micro’s and indie’s who have seen what has occurred to other early adopters such as the Monta with their Lemania movement fiasco, as well as the Serica problems with the Soprod newton.

In any case, I thought I would present the list of the watch models I currently know about using the LJP G100 ready to buy, or will be shortly.

Airain Sous-Marine - 38mm diver reissue with date. Up for preorder. https://www.airain.com/product-category/watches/sous-marine/

Anordain Model 1 - 3 hander, G100 as an option https://anordain.com/collections/anordain-model-1

Frederique Constant Grande Premiere - 38.5mm dressy 3 hander https://frederiqueconstant.com/watches/collection/classics/classics_premiere/fc-301swr3b6/

Furlan Marri Sector - 37.5mm dressy 3 hander with 3 different dial colors. That salmon dial and black hands would be my pick https://www.furlanmarri.com/collections/three-hands

Polo Ralph Lauren Vintage ‘67 - 40mm 3 hander with a bund strap https://www.ralphlauren.com/men-accessories-watches/polo-vintage-67-watch/0073143786.html

Lastly, Zelos offered a Spearfisher with the G100 in it a little while back and doesn’t appear to be a current option.

Feel free to add any I may have missed!

Is it possible to identify this watch?

I recently moved to Qatar and next year me and my wife will celebrate our 5 year anniversary of marriage.

We both were thinking of buying something special. She will get a nice ring and I am happy with my wedding band as it is and would rather spend a bit more on a nice watch. My collection consists of a Tissot Visodate(white dial), Casio Tiffany Blue(bought before the inflation on prices) and a Casio A158 brown.

I have eyed a couple of watches and have made a list of potential candidates and yesterday while browsing Chrono24 I found a very interesting watch and I wanted to see if this could maybe be the watch to buy.

The one I am talking about is a Louis Erard Atelier OI regulator. I find the design to be stunning. I wish it was slimmer but I am ok with 12mm since my Visodate has been a trusty companion for almost 10 years now.

I do wonder regarding the labeling of the limited edition. It says 1 of 178 on all the ones I have seen. Is this a common practice or should I be careful to not buy a fake?

Then again I was thinking...

Should I spend 3000 USD on a limited edition watch with a modified sellita SW200 movement or maybe go for something more sophisticated.

Since I am a leftie I have been eyeing on a Tudor Pelagos LHD. The design is nice and I like the tooly feeling it displays. But I have issues with the thickness...

Then we have the Cartier Santos Dumont in Black Lacquer that I can order without any clear indication as of when to get it. They say 3 months but I doubt it... this one is a bit more than Tudor Pelagos but still reasonable in my opinion and it is very unusual.

Lastly we have the L.U.C GMT ONE in titanium, limited edition. The most expensive of the ones but a watch that is very interesting and resonates with a lot of the grail attributes I have for a final watch or for a beginning of something bigger in the future.

I understand that each of these watches are very different to each other. My biggest issue to decide is this though. Inhouse movement or not and how thick can you go before it is too much for a suit?

I like the Louis Erard since it has a good value and is stunning, but it does not have a inhouse movement. Should this matter? I kinda want to say yes or am I being picky?
If I now require a inhouse movement then I should also skip on the Cartier which I love due to the Art Deco design. But the Piaget movement is a very good movement that is very slim.

Then we have the Tudor. Nice design, good price, inhouse movement the building is attached next to Tudors so in my opinion it is) and made for a leftie. But.... it is 14 something millimeters. Sure I have seen people using a Sea Dweller with a suit but I am not sure. Could you use the Pelagos for work with a suit?

Then we have the grail like Chopard. Amazing watch but for 10 000 USD. Quite a jump from the Louis Erard. But this one has the inhouse movement, is not thick and has titanium case and is also limited edition. Can I buy this watch? Yes but its borderline. I feel spending maximum the value of the Cartier is a bit more reasonable(6000 USD)

So what should I do? Should I just go with the Louis Erard as long as it is not a fake or should I go with something else?
