Cummins Inc. has agreed to pay an over $1.67 billion penalty to settle claims by regulators that the engine manufacturer unlawfully altered hundreds of thousands of pickup truck engines to bypass emissions tests. According to the U.S. Justice Department, which announced the agreement in principle Thursday, Cummins' alleged actions violated the Clear Air Act — a federal law that requires car and engine manufacturers to comply with emission limits. The $1.675 billion fine would be the largest civil penalty the Justice Department has secured under the Clear Air Act to date and second largest environmental penalty ever secured.

The Volkswagen Up GTI I had in France last summer was a dream. It also had 17-inch wheels and low-profile tires. Off the coast, I ran over what seemed to be an innocuous small rock in the road. I knew something was wrong in about the next 10 seconds.

Hello everyone!

The original creator of this community went inactive a long time ago and ever since the moderation and activity has gone down to pretty much 0 in this community.

Although luckily, I was able to takeover, and I am hoping this community can be what r/Cars has been for on Reddit, a place for all car enthusiasts to gather and discuss. And speaking of r/cars on reddit, if we can get back to sustainable community growth here, we may be able to partner with r/cars, which can be huge for our community here on the Fediverse.

This community, as a fellow car enthusiast, is really important to me and so far, we have not only removed multiple spam posts and placed bans on spam bots or rule breakers, we've also been testing banners and logos, we have also implemented rules and description which will continue to be refined.

Finally, hope the community can comeback alive, if you are interested in cars, please do consider posting and interacting here.

Thank you!

There are few cars that create such an emotional response as the Mini. In 1959 it was a modern, cutting-edge design, but today is a cute, old-fashioned car. It’s gone from being the height of practicality to completely impractical, certainly compared to modern cars. But that emotional response was understood by those who sought to recreate it at the turn of the Millenium, creating a practical car that nevertheless cherishes its British Mini roots. So, just why did the British Motor Corporation decide to build this tiny car? And why was the Mini on sale, almost unchanged, for over 40 years?

With its streamlined shape and twin tail wings, the Panhard CD is one of the most iconic prototypes that ever raced in Le Mans. Now the car that was driven by Alain Bertaut and André Guilhaudin during the legendary 1964 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is coming up for auction.

Here are mine. What’s does everyone else have?

1969 Ford F250
Rebuilt 390fe with a mild cam and intake manifold
Rebuilt c6 auto
Converted to EFI (fitech)
Running but I need to sort out the exhaust and the plugs are fouled from a bad fuel pump pressure regulator. Plans include adding A/C and converting it back to column shift.
Also need to replace some suspension bushings before adding a sway bar.

1961 Lincoln Continental sedan
Rebuilt 430 MEL engine
Converted to EFI (F.A.S.T.)
New interior, headliner.
Hasn’t ran in 5 years so I’m dropping the fuel tank this winter. It’s currently lowered but I don’t like how it rides so I’m going to take it back to stock ride height. I also need to sort out all the vacuum lines.

I'm genuinely trying to figure out what I'm missing. I prefer hatchbacks, I have a VW GTI right now and its perfect. I have moved myself and other people from house to house, I can store almost everything in it. The car is fast, I can back in anywhere, and its great on gas (despite my enjoyment of said speed). SUVs are huge, they get in the way, they are slow, they take up so much gas to use. I see the use in space, but if you don't have a family of 5 what good are they? I've driven a few but I just don't get it.

I _want_to understand what the draw is. What's so good about them over hatchbacks or sedans?

Currently looking into cars right now. I have a 17 VW GTI Sport. I have a commute of 50 miles in a day, and right now with gas prices, its costing me like $40 a week its nuts (yes I use premium, yes I know I don't have to, etc etc, its still damn high). So I started thinking about EVs.

Started doing a bunch of searching. I originally had a Mazdaspeed3 and got the VW GTI because I wanted the same thing again, but with ...lets say a little more luxury in it. Nice soft leather, more technology, automatic. VW GTI hit the spot. Price wise, cost of living wise, looks wise, gas mileage, speed, all of it worked.
So I'm lookin at EVs, and ...as this video pointed out, they are 100% absolutely not for me. They do not have hatchbacks most of them are SUVs with a few sedans...only really the Mach-E sort of fits, they cost too much, they damn near require you to own your home or be able to add a charging plug wherever you do live, the infrastructure sucks...like it's just not feasible. I want to have an EV. I seriously want to give some car company my money, stop relying on oil, help my planet and myself but its like...do I want to drive some car I don't really want (Chevy Bolt) just for that? I feel like I'm going to have to make a mental change. I am deeply in love with my VW GTI, its like they made that car specifically for me and me alone, and I'm not feeling that anywhere. I'm going to have to let that feeling go, and I wish I didn't have to. I started looking into hybrids and ....its not looking good either. Yet again I'm stuck being in this spot where nobody cares about my itty bitty demographic and it sucks.

Maybe I'll just leave my car in eco mode and call it a day.
