On the hottest and coldest days, when demand for electricity peaks and the price rockets, the bitcoin miners either sell power back to providers at a profit or stop mining for a fee, paid by ercot. Doing so has become more lucrative than mining itself. In August of 2023 Riot collected $32m from curtailing mining and just $8.6m from selling bitcoin.

wasn't sure where to put this one, but decided Wohl is the most crypto guy ever who didn't actually get into crypto

I don't have much to add here, but I know when she started writing about the specifics of what Democrats are worried about being targeted for their "political views" my mind immediately jumped to members of my family who are gender non-conforming or trans. Of course, the more specific you get about any of those concerns the easier it is to see that crypto doesn't actually solve the problem and in fact makes it much worse.

  1. She needs to fix that by saying and doing some things that help make her public image more moderate, ideally things that are either true (“some people belong in prison and it’s that simple”) or lacking in policy substance (“my parents moved to this country because it’s the greatest place on Earth, and I think my party and our school system need to get back to teaching kids patriotism”). But it also wouldn’t hurt to throw people a bone on a relatively unimportant policy issue (Bitcoin?) or two that demonstrate separation from Biden.

Saw the title and knew I had to post here. Not quite as big of a self-own as Square selling Tomb Raider for a blockchain / AI pivot; but amusing nonetheless.

This is a real plate, not one of those fake vanity plates. The Sox may have the worst season in the history of baseball this year, but that's not necessarily related.

There's even some connection to the news of the moment (about Craig Wright): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_Ayre#Bitcoin_involvement

TIL that television program “The Boys” has an in universe cryptocurrency as a satire of, well, cryptocurrency in general but also specifically that time when DJT was selling NFTs. They occasionally tweet about it.

It has a listing on the “BSCScan” crypto tracker under the name “VTC” so someone might have actually minted it? It might surprise some of you that I have no way of telling the realness of such a thing.
