On Anime

While Anime is a beloved animation style with a rich history and extensive following, our focus here leans towards other forms of animation. This is due to the immense popularity of Anime in online spaces, which is amply covered by other dedicated communities.

This doesn't mean that Anime related conversation is not allowed here, only that it's not our focus.

On Technical Discussion

While our primary goal is to discuss animated media, conversations about animation techniques and the process of creating animation are also welcome. Whether you're a budding animator seeking to understand more about the industry, or a seasoned professional sharing your experiences, you're welcome here.

Rooster Teeth was a web-based media company most famous for the web serieses Red vs. Blue and RWBY. They started out on April 1, 2003 with the very first episode of Red vs. Blue, a machinima web series that was based on, and used models from, Halo. Eventually, they got very popular and expanded their operations over the years. They've been acquired by many companies, who in turn were acquired by other companies, and in recent years RT somehow had the misfortune of being owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

Apparently, Rooster Teeth has not been profitable since 2014. For ten years, they have been operating at a loss. Not even their big fan expo events have broken even. WB has been looking to sell RT since 2021, to no avail. Ultimately, on March 6, 2024, RT's general manager Jordan Levin released a press statement saying that the company would shut down in two months. The RT employees were not aware of this until after the statement was released.

Rooster Teeth is also infamous for its workplace controversies and sexual harrassment allegations, but that's a story for another day.

Even though I never was interested in Rooster Teeth's content until last year, it's pretty clear that they had a big impact on the early days of the Web. Shows like Red vs. Blue, RWBY, and gen:LOCK hold a special place in many people's hearts, and it's sad to see their legacy end.

Rooster Teeth's final project was Red vs. Blue: Restoration, a feature film that acts as the series finale to Red vs. Blue, which was released on May 7, 2024. I think this is a fitting end to the company. Their legacy starts and ends with RvB.

Here's to 21 years. Hopefully RWBY can get a proper ending.

Inside Out is my favourite Pixar film of the last decade so I'm cautiously optimistic about the sequel. I'm really hoping Pixar knocks it out of the park especially considering their last 2 films were pretty disappointing in my opinion.

I've only seen Robot Dreams out of this list and that was phenomenal. Definitely adding some of these other winners to my list of things to watch.

Scavenger's Reign was my favourite animated show from last year. Hopefully Netflix gives it a season 2. At the very least it should get more views being on Netflix now.

Seems like there's going to be 20 one-to-three-minute shorts. Do you prefer that or want fewer, longer episodes? I'm not a parent and have only seen a handful of episodes so I'm not sure what the fan preference is.

The original Despicable Me was a movie I thoroughly enjoyed. And the second one was pretty good too. It frustrates me that the focus has shifted so much to the Minions and that such a massive chunk of the marketing for this doesn't even have Gru in it.

This is an uninterrupted 3 minute clip from the new season. Don't watch if you're sensitive to spoilers.

For me it's got to be the Teen Titans show. Loved that as a kid and I think a modern revival of it would be awesome.

The very first episode of SpongeBob SquarePants "Help Wanted", in which SpongeBob applies for a job at the Krusty Krab, premiered on May 1, 1999. The episode was written by series creator Stephen Hillenburg, storyboard artist Derek Drymon, and Tim Hill.

The series premiere was viewed in over 2 million households. The episode received positive reviews from critics, and SpongeBob SquarePants eventually went on to become Nickelodeon's biggest franchise.

Happy 25th anniversary, Goofy Goobers!

A lovely combination of 2D and 3D by Glen Keane

For me the first thing that comes to mind is Tales from Earthsea. I don't think it's excellent or anything and has plenty of problems but people act like it killed their dog. While it has its problems that have been covered extensively, I think it has a beautiful atmosphere and art.

IMO it would have been better received if it wasn't advertised as an Earthsea adaptation and was just its own thing.

The film is getting a theatrical release in China in the summer. I couldn't find an exact date. Cannes Market is happening during the second half of May.
