Here we go again!

Take your pick of the many things people have requested over the years. Personally I’d love to see a selfhosted alternative to Foursquare/Yelp so that I can “check in” to different locations and be able to keep a record of all the places I’ve been and what I’ve done/seen/purchased/etc. and leave reviews for such things (we go on family vacations a lot and try different restaurants that aren’t just boring “chains” and it would be nice to look back and see what we liked or didn’t like when we go back to those areas and see if they even still exist after X amount of years)

It would be hilarious if they made the default port to be 6969 instead of 9999 for stash =))

Do people not already change it to that? That’s what I set mine to the moment I installed it on Unraid lol

Dev here.

Honestly, most project came to fruition due to a need the developers themselves have.

Ask yourself the question if YOU need something that doesn't exist yet, or maybe exists but does not meet your requirements.

If you build something for yourself in the first place, and not because someone else wants it, it's a lot easier to stay motivated.

I've been seeing the mindset of "I need to build this hobby project because people want it" a lot lately. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but personally I think it'a better to build something you need and let others enjoy it as an added bonus. It's how a lot of great (and big!) things came to be.

This may be the crusty old fart in me talking, but the "hack around and build something" mindset is something I kind of miss nowadays 😅

In any chance, good luck on your endeavour! Feel free to post it in the subreddit, I'm sure a lot of people wouls be interested, myself included!

This. I code some services to work around my existing self-hosted apps but they’re just for my own personal use. I don’t have the motivation (or ability) to code big projects for other people, but sometimes, if the code is good enough, I’ll release the source and some instructions to GitHub. I’d never know what people smarter than me could do with it otherwise. Already had my first couple of forks and gave me the chance to get feedback from others on my coding.

Pointless re-inventing the wheel. Help with some existing project instead. NPM needs some help, few bugs to fix and a little bit of added functionality to make it perfect.

Health application where we can import our health exams and, thru ocr, results can be automatically added to the database where we can consult our health history. Additionally, many fields where we can feed manually like: body metrics, medicine used, doctor appointments etc. A health app manager is the main selfhosted application needed due to the sensitive information and privacy.
