In Search of the Lost Chord - The Moody Blues
A favorite, and very important album to me. My late cousin introduced me to progressive rock with this album. And this, in my opinion, was the Golden Age of progressive rock. But there is so much more than rock going on:
Behind the First Door: Medieval music (Guitar and Flute) Behind the Second Door: Baroque music (Harpsichord and 'cello) Behind the Third Door: Classical music (A Mellotron doing its best impression of an entire symphony orchestra) Behind the Fourth Door: Rock music (Legend of a Mind, the next song on the album, which is then followed by House of Four Doors Part 2)
All shot through with the theme of a journey. An inner journey, not so much an external one. That the search for that lost chord begins within us. The lyrics on this album reflect that. This band weren't rock stars so much as they were troubadours. It's an album so deep that more than one listening is not an option, but an imperative in order to truly absorb what the Moodys have to tell us.
Enjoy the ride.
