On 9 August and 14 August, the North Central Railway along with the Mathura police and district administration demolished 135 Muslim-owned houses deemed to be encroachments, while Hindu homes in the same area remained. Situated behind a historic temple complex and a mosque, the demolished homes add to the 1 million people displaced by State agencies across India in five years, most with no rehabilitation or compensation, a violation of Supreme Court orders.
