Of course they started with an existing platform to save time and money. When anyone else does it, it’s a smart way to save time and money. When anyone related to captain cheese ball does it, it’s because he’s cheap as shit. I wonder if the devs ever got paid.

Yeah, the main reason I remember is they almost got sued over not disclosing it I think

The truthier something claims to be, the less it is.

When I was out for a walk the other month, I saw a newspaper in a waterproof bag, propped up at the side of the path by a hedge. It was called The Light, and boldly claimed to be "the uncensored truth". Would you believe it, it turned out to be full of Covid conspiracy nonsense and anti-semitism.

In my day we just found discarded grotty porn in hedges, now it's right wing nutbaggery. I fear for our youth. We need to distribute more copies of Reader's Wives and Razzle across the flora and fauna of Britain.

You don't live near Mansfield do you? I used to see that all the time around there (I moved away recently) and I made a point of picking them up and throwing them away.

I'm down the M1 a bit in sunny Long Eaton.

I suspect one of the canal boat people left it. Most of them seem normal enough, but you do have the odd ones with golliwogs in their boat windows, or alt-righty looking flags flying.

5 minutes ago I searched the app store for the word "Arby's". First result? The Hardee's app. SEO is a cancer.

Truth Social is built with Mastodon fun fact lmao

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yep, and I'm pretty sure they almost got sued over not disclosing it too

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If it's based in Mastodon then it's he wrong to say it's the exact opposite of Mastodon, no?

That's like saying a Lemmy app is the opposite of another Lemmy app, if one app defaulted to Lemmygrad and the other to Exploding Heads.

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 4 points 1 year ago

Well, more of the antithesis since the kind/stance of the content

[–] pjhenry1216@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

It's essentially forked mastodon. There's no federation with it. It's just using the core functionality. Plus Mastodon's development had a goal and vision. TruthSocial is somewhat antithetical to it.

[–] cynetri@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

Yup, they didn't comply with the license Mastodon uses (Affero General Public License) by not publishing the source code and making it accessible via something like a button and they got a legal notice to either add one or get sued

[–] Pofski@sopuli.xyz 26 points 1 year ago

Is it weird that I find the "Teen" category the most disturbing?

[–] Thedogspaw@midwest.social 7 points 1 year ago

Well truth social is a mastodon server so same thing?

[–] IuseArchbtw@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Have you ever heard of the F-droid-store?

[–] Genghis@monero.town 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Google Play Store is more secure.

[–] Genghis@monero.town 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Why Fdroid is not secure:

  1. Hosts an outdated APK client.
  2. Utilizes an obsolete installation method.
  3. Does not take advantage of modern appstore features.
  4. Has no moderation.
  5. Has no old app deletion.
  6. Has an arbitrary FOSS only rule.
  7. Does all building and signing themselves.
[–] ultra@discuss.online 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)
  1. Not outdated

  2. That's the standard method

  3. What features?

  4. AFAIK it dods

  5. Just don't install the old apps then.

  6. That's literally why it was made. To distribute FOSS apps.

Here is a more detailed explanation: https://privsec.dev/posts/android/f-droid-security-issues/

Accrescent is a new appstore that fixes all these issues but its still in alpha stage and has 11 apps right now.

I replaced fdroid with Obtainium that pulls apks from github, gitlab, fdroid, etc and it has support for auto updates. It's a little better than Fdroid but still has its own issues.
