You can use any client you want guys . Lemmy wins

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Lemmy winks ?

[–] ijeff@lemdro.id 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Don't forget Connect! It's probably the most complete Lemmy app right now. The "About Instance" function is amazing for getting a list of communities on a given instance with actual working links for subscribing.

For folks curious, !infinityforlemmy@lemdro.id is the Infinity fork community. Dev is quite active :).

Have a link? Is it open source?

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@voxpop.social 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Where is the "About Instance" feature?

[–] ijeff@lemdro.id 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)
  1. Tap the three dots overflow menu:

  1. Select About Instance:

  1. Select View Communities:

Thanks. I found that earlier. I tried to edit comment. There's a feature on my app that says "add user comment"... I thought that equaled an edited comment that indicated 'I found the answer".

Voyager (now as native app) 👨‍🍳😙👌

[–] NoisyFlake@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Yup, feels like Apollo before 😊

[–] words_number@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Voyager is nice, but since it's a native app I can't download pictures anymore, so I switched to infinity and got used to it...

[–] nwithan8@artemis.camp 11 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Tried Jerboa, Sync and Thunder (and Artemis + web app for kbin).

Sync seems the most polished because it came from Reddit, but the fact that you can't post in Sync right now makes it really hard to dig in and dedicate to it.

Thunder feels like a more polished version of Jerboa, but I'm not a huge fan of the Material You design and big iconography in any of these apps (I came from RIF, so I'm used to basically early 2010s UI, lol).

Artemis is unevalautable right now given its severe alpha state.

And of course, lemmy.world is having connection issues, so none of the apps really "work" right now, no fault of their own. At least Thunder seems to cache old data, since it's populated when I open it, versus Sync which can't make a connection.

[–] Frederic 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What do you mean cannot post in Sync? I'm using Sync since day 1 and can post, like this comment

[–] Faceless@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But sync can't submit new posts yet. Only comments.

[–] Frederic 3 points 1 year ago

oh shit right, this is why it's still a beta

Try connect, I recommend it highly.

Where does Voyager fit into this?

[–] XpeeN@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

I had an hard time igonring the slight delay at animations when using it on my phone. I'm usually use it on PC though.

[–] Samsy@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I am in love with infinity too. Only problem I have, it lacks some Lemmy features, adding pictures to comments or showing down votes etc.

Liftoff & Voyager are my companions.

[–] intrepid@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Infinity for Lemmy is out already? If that's true, you won't have to wait too long for all the features you want.

[–] Roundcat@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Depending on who I ask here, Sync is either a caveman brained or enlightened choice.

[–] Reborn2966@feddit.it 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

sync is just a more polished app since it came from reddit. but infinity is the same, and boost will be the same too.

chose the app you like most and support its dev.

Still have a faint hope for Relay

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How does Infinity compare to Sync ? I'm considering switching clients since my having paid for Reddit Sync Pro does not entitle me to Lemmy Sync's "remove ads" (I still have to pay 16e, which is way too much).

[–] GravelPieceOfSword@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wasn't very impressed with sync when I tried it out after all the hype: maybe because I've been a long time infinity user. I can't give a fair comparison since I haven't given sync too much of a chance, but here's what I like about infinity:

  • FOSS, on fdroid (fdroid >> play store for me)
  • nice UI - adjustable font sizes, top comment scrolling
  • multiple account support
  • dark mode is pretty dark (yeah, I really like dark mode)
  • fairly stable
[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I'll give it a shot

[–] 0x2d@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

liftoff and infinity are great

[–] CraigeryTheKid 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Dumb question... I went to beehaw.org on my mobile browser, and clicked "install". Which app does that mean I'm using?

[–] gothicdecadence@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're using your browser and the beehaw website as a PWA (progressive web app)

[–] CraigeryTheKid 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

thanks. so I guess I need to try out one of the actual-apps. Just when I thought I was keeping up with the cool kids...

[–] gothicdecadence@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Haha it's a valid way of using Lemmy (and other websites!) but yeah, in the meme they're all android apps. Some are on the play store, some are in beta on github. Not sure which of these (if any) are available on iOS. There's also Connect which some people like. I prefer Sync personally, but Liftoff is pretty good.

Infinity makes me feel like nothing has changed

[–] jao@lemy.lol 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I am using Infinity. It has been working great so far. It is one of the most themeable Lemmy clients I know of.

[–] Killercat103@infosec.pub 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Using Jerboa still. Nice to have it from F-Droids official repo. Did use Infinity for Reddit before I deleted my account around aweek before the protest. But only the Reddit version is there currently

[–] jao@lemy.lol 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's on the Izzysoft F-Droid repo: https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/eu.toldi.infinityforlemmy

The source code is found at: https://codeberg.org/Bazsalanszky/Infinity-For-Lemmy/releases

The Infinity for Lemmy sublemmy is found here: !infinityforlemmy@lemdro.id

and the developer is u/bazsalanszky@lemmy.toldi.eu

Though the name might change since its a fork and not done by the same developer: https://lemy.lol/post/2958776

I am either hoping for it to stay the same, or for it to change to Eternity.

[–] kratoz29@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I just can't decide between Sync and Voyager.

[–] Doog@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Guess you never tried Thunder

[–] words_number@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Just tried it. Seems cool, but slightly laggy on my phone. Infinity runs butter smooth!

[–] XpeeN@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I can't remember why I skipped thunder, I think it's because it doesn't autoplay gifs without opening it.

Also, whenever I opened it I saw it connect to so many servers that it made me worried a bit (probably overthink it), but it's not the home screen itself because obviously liftoff for example shows the same and doesn't connect to the same servers thunder did.

Edit: maybe liftoff pull the content from my instance while thunder take it straight from the source?
