Well that's out of left field. I suppose that's a testament to how well they've done to keep their private life private.

An interesting historical parallel, Pierre Trudeau was the first PM to be divorced while in office.

I care about this as much as I care about the divorce of any other people I do not know. It is none of my business and it does not matter to me.

I really don't understand why I should care what people do with their personal life.

For his family's sake, I hope he chooses ~~not~~ to step down for the next election. Milhouse is going to run with this, and will not hesitate to fight dirty.

Why are comments even open on this article? They're just terrible tabloid trash.

[–] lexcyn@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To be fair pretty much all comments on any news article are like this lol

Hold my beer, I'm going in…

CBC comments are always atrocious.

Seemed like she didn't wanted him to run again, but he is definitely going.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

If that's the case he should have agreed not to. I don't see him making it through another election with how much baggage he's got now after two terms.

I will predict either a conservative minority or ndp minority, no idea which way it will swing but I think both sides have had enough of the liberal "middle ground".

It's sad, but I hope they're better off for it.

Maybe now Melania has again more reasons to leave her isolated apartment life.

I have to ask: who cares, and why should I?

How long until she lands a cushy job at one of her previous corporate “benefactors”?

I guess he's not stepping down as a leader of the LPC.

E: As in, maybe the political work was tough on the family and they expected him to stop doing it at some point, which did not arrive.

I wonder if he and Melanie Joly will go public now.

You heard it here!

[–] yads@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

Wow that's unexpected

For what it's worth, a friend of mine that used to work in a chain of high-end hotels had the Trudeaus as guests, and she said that Sophie treated everyone like trash.
