That's fantastic. Keep up the good work!

[–] hariette@kbin.social 22 points 2 years ago

Thank you, just doing my part to serve the community!

[–] CodingAndCoffee@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This kind of stuff is exactly what the fediverse needs. Great work!

[–] hariette@kbin.social 11 points 2 years ago

100%! So much growth left in the fediverse. And I can’t wait for more competition on the app space :D

iOS dev, making a cross platform app, inspired by how apollo was?! Oof, as an Android user, i cant wait! πŸ‘

[–] hariette@kbin.social 17 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Budgeting to get an Android device so I can test it myself too ;)

Also, Apollo was just iconic. If I can built half of that, we’ll be rocking it!

[–] vektor@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Which Android device are you looking at? I've always wondered how devs develop for Android since there's so many different kinds of devices that run Android with different capabilities. With iPhones, I'm (hopefully correctly) assuming that it's a little easier since there's only so many versions to support.

[–] hariette@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Yep, much easier on iOS. For Android I'll prob pick a Pixel.

I'm happy to see kbin apps start popping up so fast. Signed up for this beta.

[–] mountainpeacock@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is great! I miss features from apps on Kbin, like saving posts, collapsing comments, etc. Signed up.

Wanted to add - Joey for Reddit was my go-to on Android when I left iOS/Apollo. Might be good inspiration, as well; I actually felt that Joey handled somethings much better than Apollo did.

[–] virgil31@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Joey for Reddit is/was the ULTIMATE client if you desire customization of the experience.
Man...I spent days on those font size and elements to be show/hide on the cards/threads. But it was in the end MY PERFECT experience

I'd rather see Relay or Infinity inspired stuff but I guess it's a first step for this type of field.

[–] hariette@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Noted. I'll take a look at those and see what I can pull from them too.

[–] DodgeForthrast@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You absolute legend. Make it paid and I’ll pay for it. This is how we win.

[–] hariette@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago

Awww thanks. My aim is to keep it free (plus ad free!). Just wanna help the fediverse become more accessible :)

If I do charge for something it would be for unique features that go above and beyond.

[–] flatcat@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Congrats! Not sure what kbin stands for, but Cabin (or Kabin) is just right there for an associated name.

[–] iAmTheTot@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

Very much did not verify this so take with grain of salt, but I read that it was shorthand for a Polish gun. Magazines is then a bit of a double entendre.

Kbinauts to the moon! Signing up now!

Looks like it'd be super handy. went ahead and signed up on the form :)

[–] hariette@kbin.social 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Appreciate it!

A decade back I spent some years running another indie app and the best part was the community helping test and recommend features. It really elevates the quality of a product. Unlike what we're seeing with reddit....

[–] Otome-chan@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Understandable. I've coded some chat/forum apps before as well as android app stuff. never anything popular though lol. hopefully things go well for you :)

[–] iNeedScissors67@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

Applied! I've spent a lot ot my free time on kbin the last few days, I would love to provide feedback on an app.

Can't wait to see this, it should make it easier for people to join that would have ended up using the reddit app instead.

[–] Lilkev@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

I signed up as well! Looks really promising!

[–] albinanigans@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

We're watching your career with great interest!

Maybe a name like Aurora or Nova could work. Like it is still space / celestial themed but both symbolize β€œnew” (aurora - new morning after nighttime, nova, explosion of light / pent up energy), and can work as a spiritual successor paying homage to Apollo. Great idea btw I just signed up.

[–] mightysashiman@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Wouldn't recommend using "Aurora". It's already the main alternative to the official google play store, and it's getting hunted down by Google. You wouldn't this nice new app to get stuck into this unrelated mess.

[–] Bakoda@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

To add to this, Nova is a very popular Android launcher as well.

What about something like Komet? Then it would still be space themed, but have the K from kbin as well.

[–] Grimlo9ic@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Signed up! I've been using a Firefox shortcut on my Android phone for the past couple of days, but an app would make things much easier and more accessible.

[–] hydro033@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Love the name

It'd be nice to have a landing page like what Apollo has. One where you can favorite Magazines and the like.

[–] danielton@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

This is awesome news! I just signed up!

[–] HealGirl@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

It looks really good so far! Definitely interested in following the development of it :)

Have you gotten the API to work, or are you just scraping the site? I haven't been able to get the API to work, but I've messed around a bit with scraping to work on a desktop app

Signed up. The mobile web interface is clunky, I’d love to help refine an app.

[–] Blakerboy777@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

I'm so pumped you're doing this! Just signed up :-)

[–] Calvinball@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Signed up! Appreciate the work!
