I mostly bounce between local and subscribed myself with a dash of all now and then to see if there's anything new and interesting out there. Need to fill up my dub list a bit after all!

Righ now I try to look more at all post to find new communities. Also, local and subscribed communities are almost identical for me and not a lot is happening.

I hope to find the "core communities" so to speak, but I'm afraid that everyone wants to do the same thing, so no community persists, if that makes sense. It will probably take a bit more time.

So I just try to look at as much as possible

It’s all bubbling up. I look at all 3. Local for the dopest shit, then subscribed…. Rarely look at all now. Someone on my instance subbed to a bunch of porno.

[–] TemperateFox 3 points 1 year ago

Same, I wish there was a way to block entire instances.

So basically normal reddit!

[–] manifex@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Hahaha! With the 'local' culture of each instance. It's fun!

Yeah.. it'll probably take quite some time before the dust settles.. it's like the gold rush right now, everyone wants to stake their clame to their favorite communities.

Wonder if we'll ever have som sort of meta communities? So you could group a bunch of similar ones together and treat them as one, could come in handy considering how spread out Lemmy might end up becoming.

Subscribed, new comments. It's the perfect combo as it shows me new posts but also ones getting recent action.

I do regularly flip to local or all just because it's fun to stumble across random new stuff, and also because I'm not subbed to many actually big communities (yet).

Subscribed - new. But I often also browse in the other options cause it's fun and exciting to see more content and every time it is a bit of a surprise what I find there.

[–] makeitra1n 5 points 1 year ago

currently it‘s all but I switch them regularly.

Local, sorted by new, then swapping to Subscribed if I wanna see if there's any movement in the non-Beehaw communities I've linked up with. Thankfully, I'm trying to wean myself off the "Ooo! New thing!" rush that social media's trapped me in for years and this is a good way to step down instead of trying to go cold turkey.

Subscribed first, then local.

Local

I'm sorting by New and watching what comes through to see what I want to ensure I'm subscribed to as well as what to block. I'll likely stay on local most of the time.

I find All to be jarring when several posts load from other instances and only switch to it when exploring other community options.

[–] joe@lemmy.knocknet.net 3 points 1 year ago

Since I'm hosting my own, I have it set to subscribed, which is not much different than "All" for me.

I’m mostly coursing through subscribed and local with the active posts on top. I haven’t gotten used to all yet because I sometimes see porn on there and it terrifies me lol. I’m more of a I will consume porn content when I intend to type of person.

[–] nlm 3 points 1 year ago

Lol that's pretty reasonable! Turn off NSFW and you won't see them :)

[–] TheRedBadger@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

The Mlem app allowed me to “Favorite” a few core communities. So I’m bouncing between those and the “All” view to try to keep tabs on which communities are picking up steam.

[–] grogg 3 points 1 year ago

I switch between all 3, mostly in new or hot. Not that much in “all”, just to see what’s going on in other instances and to see if I want to sub to a new community that I might find.

[–] Silviecat44@vlemmy.net 2 points 1 year ago

Theres not much on Local on my instance at the moment so I mostly go to subscribed

[–] simple@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I mostly switch between subscribed and new all. Still on the lookout for new communities but I bet in a few weeks I'll likely stay on subscribed forever like I do on Reddit.

[–] HawkXero@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago

Subscribed. Then I usually check All.
