I have. And i would love for it to be permanent, but that's going to depend on if Lemmy continues to build content. At the end of the day, I like this platform but without content I won't stay. Current momentum is looking fantastic though, and I will continue to comment and add my pieces!

I emptied the content from each comment I made. Then I deleted my accounts. I'm glad to be part of these new communities and conversations.

I'm waiting for my GDPR data export, but it's taking longer than they promise already. Very close to get rid of it all.

[–] CaptManiac@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 years ago

Not yet. I think Lemmy needs to mature a bit more and get more of the groups I'm interested in.

Are you guys seeing the trainwreck in this AMA?

I did a week ago, before all this went down. Just kept having terrible experiences interacting with people. After 15 years on reddit I was done with it. Deleted my account immediately. Then followed by regret for not backing up my saved section or removing my old comments. :(

[–] citrixscu 3 points 2 years ago

Not yet but I haven’t used it since the Apollo drama.

[–] Rhinoceros@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Planning on deleting my alt accounts, however I'm not going to delete my main account, I will just programmatically delete all my posts and comments.

I suspect that deleting accounts won't be what Reddit is looking at anyway, all they'll care about is ad revenue, and my accounts which were not generating any revenue will not bother them in the slightest.

I'm exploring my options.

As long as old.reddit exists and there is a large community, I'll be 'stuck' with Reddit. I'm not there for the platform - I'm there for the people. I'll go where the people go.

As far as mobile usage goes, I don't know. Without an 'Apollo for Lemmy' or 'Lemmy is Fun' - I'm hanging around waiting for something to happen.

Reddit is the longest I've had a social media account after Facebook - pushing my 12th year. And I've participated in a lot of social media and message boards that came and went.

In my experience, websites sites die quickly when leadership prioritizes scraping profits over a user experience. And look, I completely understand and respect that companies need to earn revenue. However, it's a two-way relationship. Users will always flock to a more streamlined and accessible experience.

It's why Pandora > Shoutcast/iTunes Radio. It's why Spotify > Pandora. And it's why Netflix > Blockbuster. It's why after years of using Fark.com for news engagement, I joined Reddit. It gave me a far superior experience (not that Fark was ever bad).

I really like Lemmy. And I like the concept of federated spaces. But whether or not the concept is a big enough draw is really to be determined - especially without knowing what the mobile experience looks like.

All this to say.. I'll delete my account when it's no longer relevant. If I can get truly unique food and drink recommendations for my local city here, with enthusiastic participants all joining in the conversation - that's what I'll need to bury the past 12 years of online activity.

Deleted my account & the 3rd party app on my phone. I'm only checking select subreddits through Libreddit (until it stops working).

[–] bkkcitypokey@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm trying to make up my mind because a lot of my favourite subreddits are on there, especially the circlejerk ones because they're my humour fuels.

[–] theory@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 years ago

Remake them here!

[–] WandererLagomorph799@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just waiting on a data request download for submissions (through reddits data request if there isn't a faster way) and noting/making my last few communities on Lemmy, then I'll be on my way out. Didn't expect to clear it this soon but life hits pretty fast sometimes.

I deleted all of my posts and comments from my 8 year old account today. Just need to 'export' saved videos and articles to some other apps and then I'll delete the actual account.

[–] Lordofheaven@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Just before I joined here, I deleted my posts and my account from reddit. Hopefully I don't need to visit the site very often anymore after today's shitshow.

[–] sverit@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago

Just did it. removed everything with the PowerDelete script, then deleted my 12 year old account. Sad. I deleted all comments, too. Like many people here I find it sad, that this information is gone, but I do not want to give reddit traffic for my personal content.

[–] dihedral@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

I have deleted Apollo off of my phone, but I plan to still use the few tiny sub reddit communities that I enjoy. However, I am actively avoiding r/all and major subs that are just meme factories.

[–] wusterion@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

I removed all my posts and comments but kept account alive, at best I'll be lurking.

[–] Rashnet@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

June 30th is my date. I have a 13 year old account and a 8 year old account. I'm considering options what to do with the accounts. I'm split between selling them or nuking all the comments and deleting them.

My last account is still open but I've deleted everything on it... I want to delete it on June 30th. You know... to send a message. lol.

[–] Pirky@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Not yet. I want to, though. I want to try saving down everything I've saved over the past 10 years. Once I do that, then I'll feel comfortable deleting it.

[–] deuxenun@partizle.com 3 points 2 years ago

Just deleted my 3yo account with lots of juicy karma in it, also 2 alts

[–] Kissaki@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago

I value my content and the communities too much (despite its problems). I won't be deleting my account, and definitely not the content I posted.

I don't know yet what will happen to my usage and contribution level. Maybe it will only be on desktop PC from now on. We will see.

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 3 points 2 years ago

I'll try to back up all the content I created over the years (mostly memes) and my comments, but I don't feel like using Reddit anymore.

It was convenient, but their business practices are a slap in the face of too many users, mods and devs.

[–] Boot@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Already deleted all content a couple of years ago and was just lurking. Did notice that it became a chore, especially when boys became prevalent. Forced closure of 3rd party apps was the straw that broke this camels back. It’s a shame because it’s been roughly ten years or so and Reddit truly devolved

[–] PCChipsM922U@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago (5 children)

I don't plan on deleting my reddit accounts to be honest, I put way too much work in them, plus they have some saved posts that I really need and use as a reference from time to time. Also, there are some communities there that I don't believe will shift over here (for some, I am sure they won't, since they're other not that big amd moderation is not a problem for them), so I'll mostly be using Lemmy and Reddit interchangeably.

I just pulled the plug and deleted my account but to be honest, I was mostly a lurker who mostly upvoted (or downvoted on occasions!) posts over there.

[–] jbrtn@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Purged everything this morning bar for one last comment on the Apollo thread. Currently using kbin.social - exploring my options, but I wont be returning to Reddit.

[–] imekon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'm debating it, but deleting content seems pretty much a lot of work.

[–] deuxenun@partizle.com 3 points 2 years ago

There are tools out there that will do this automatically

Mate I deleted my account as soon as they announced the API change.

I know that BS trajectory. Reddit has been killing off the mobile website for a while, probably going for the old reddit too.

Fuck 'em.

[–] Silver_neurotic 2 points 2 years ago

I don’t think I’m going to delete, but I don’t think I will engage.

[–] vulfneck@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I haven't yet, but will do on the 30th (after running Redact) before Sync stops working. What I have done is requested my data, removed all the posts and customisation from the subs I moderate (r/fryup being the biggest at 30k users) and set them to private.

[–] GraceGH@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

I'm probably not going to get rid of my reddit account entirely, at least not until I get some better means of reading the news. Definitely not using it on mobile though, the official app is atrocious

[–] Mr_Smash@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

I've already deleted my reddit account a few days ago, never gonna use reddit for the foreseeable future.

[–] stappern@feddit.it 2 points 2 years ago

I deleted my accounts every few years anyway

[–] BabaDuda@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

I have to be 100% honest, probably won't delete it

Though come the 12th I'll be uninstalling Relay and hopefully make something of Lemmy
