NOTE: Taken from reddit.

As explained in an earlier post, deleting your user footprint on Reddit completely requires overwriting all your posts and comments with a boilerplate or randomized message, then deleting them all, and finally deleting the account itself.

I have found two tools that do this well, one using the Reddit API, and one not. The one using the Reddit API has more features and fewer bugs, but it may stop working beyond July 1, 2023. Both tools require a Windows, macOS, Linux, etc. computer.

My advice is to wait as close to July 1, 2023 as you can, if not beyond it, in case Reddit changes course at the last second. You may also want to request all your data from Reddit before deleting anything. Or use Reddit Manager to backup selectively.

Power Delete Suite

  • Requires a Windows, macOS, Linux, etc. computer.
  • Requires a major web browser.
  • Uses the Reddit API. May stop working beyond July 1, 2023.
  • Follow the instructions on the GitHub readme.
  • The UI should be self-explanatory.
  • Configure it to overwrite your posts and comments first, then delete them.

Better Reddit Delete

  • Requires a Windows, macOS, Linux, etc. computer.
  • Requires a major web browser.
  • Requires Greasemonkey, Tampermonkey, or Violentmonkey to be installed on the web browser.
  • Does not use the Reddit API. Will continue to work beyond July 1, 2023.
  • Follow the instructions on the Greasy Fork readme.

Updated Powerdelete forks: also taken from Reddit (archive)

(2 Additional forks if you have issues with the main and rate limits or errors.)

You created your content. You didn’t get paid. Why would you leave it here for Reddit to make money? Take your content with you.

Vive la résistance!

The one from Pkolyvas seems to be the most up to date. It is a fork of the one from Leeola.

GDPR.

Tell them to delete all your data or you drag them to court... (works from everywhere with a VPN (Proton has a good VPN with EU servers))

I've not done this yet, but what data do reddit delete if you go down this route? Do they attempt to anonymize the data or do they actually expunge any content you've contributed?

[–] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago

They legally are required to delete all your personal data. That definitely includes all content.

https://redact.dev is also a good tool, supports a bunch of services outside of reddit as well

This is a very thorough and private tool you can try. Also very easy to use. https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite

I've heard good things about Shreddit but there is a program out there that replaces all your comments with an ad to Lemmy that I'd recommend. If anyone can link to that specifically I'd appreciate it.
