Just started out on the first season of the show, only having played Witcher 3 before and not knowing much about the universe. I heard that only the first season or two are worth watching and considered looking into the first book if I get the chance. What would you recommend?
Literature
Pretty straightforward: books and literature of all stripes can be discussed here.

Honestly the Netflix series does certain damage to the books. It's a poor representation of the amazing universe that was created. I'll be crucified by saying so, but I'd start with Blood of Elves.
Actually, check out the audiobook if you can, I know they're on YouTube. The narrator is absolutely amazing with what he does: Peter Kenny.
The Netflix series is lacking indeed. To much big scope political stuff as if they were trying to be Game of Thrones or something. The relationships and moral explorations are the emotional core, at least for me. I miss the humor and wit of the books and the monsters from the game
I suspect the coming season, if it made Henry throw in the towel, will be far worse than we've seen before. What a shame, they had so much to work with from the source material.
Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check that out :)
Do you think it is worth starting the series for someone who did not really enjoy the Games due to the writing and thought the first season of the show was a mess?
Reading the books?
Yes. Absolutely. I can't recommend it enough, the books are incredible, where the series was rather awful. Henry is an amazing Geralt, but these books really do build a world like few others. Well, well worth starting to read them.
I love the show and Witcher 3, but absolutely cannot stand the books, so perhaps yes? Maybe it'll be the other way around for you, if it can be this way 'round for me.
I've been listening to the audiobooks as an incentive to go running. As great of a job Peter Kenny does, I wish it was a more effective method of motivation!
I've got about an hour left of Time of Contempt and really enjoying it.
I need to get back to them, but I have soo many other books that are also demanding my attention. I think I've read 3 or 4 of them but I dont remember which ones
I really need to get back to those books. I finished Baptism of Fire around December and really enjoyed it, then got busy with a few other books. I always need to get in the right headspace to read some of the names (for me, the Polish roots of many of the proper nouns slow me down initially), and though I know I always get the hang of them, Sapowski does always intimidate me a little at first.
