recently a coworker said something about how there are those funny videos online of kids who don't know how to properly insert a VHS tape into a player!!11!

I told him he didn't know how to use a telegraph and Morse code, either.

My kid (19) borrowed one of my iPods off me, because his mate at uni had picked up an old speaker that had an iPod dock, so he figured it'd be fun to use it properly.

He gave up when he couldn't be arsed to figure out how to jump through the hoops needed to download music that could be synced across via Music.app on his MacBook. They have a bluetooth receiver for the speaker, and it's just way easier for them to use their phones to get music.

So yeah, kids these days do know about our ancient tech, they just don't need to actually care about it.

Omg I remember, it was so bad. Some docks had the new connection, some had the old one.

It was worse if you were a Walkman kinda kid. Sony put a different connector on almost every different model. Apple's use of just the 30 Pin, then the move to Lightning was wonderful by comparison.

source I had an early HDD Walkman that never had a speaker made for it because by the second gen HDD Walkman Sony had already changed the connector.
