lemmy.world

Experience from 12 days ago from someone using join-lemmy: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/35480016

In summary: it was quite messy, they ended up on a unmaintained, slow instance and had to change

That thread shows everything wrong with lemmy at the moment.

"Go to lemmy.world"
"No, we need to fight centralization. Go to lemmy.ml instead."
"No, those are tankies. Go to lemmy.ee [sic] or sh.itjust.works."
"I've switched and now can't see any posts."
"Yeah, you need to ctrl+select English and Undetermined as languages in the settings."
"Use this client, it costs money but it's only a one-time purchase".
"No, use that client."
"I used that client, but got only server errors."
"Well, it Works On My Machine^TM^."

When you've been on Lemmy for a while this might all make some sort of sense, but to everyone else, this is complete and utter madness.

Honestly this is normal for new ecosystems. Right now lemmy is still mostly only attractive to reddit refugees who are also tech nerds. Streamlining will come in time and then the floodgates for eternal summer will open and ruin the platform 🙏

ok but lemmy.world still shouldn't be the default

  • lemmy.world
  • freedom from Reddit

pick one

But how are content creators going to make easy money here? I mean churning out mindless drivel in exchange for adrevenue is how they make their living.

I'm actually doing some research on monetization options now. Hopefully going to put together an overview of the options available soon.

While it is no longer linking to lemmy.world of all places, I think it's best not to link to a specific instance but to instead link to https://join-lemmy.org/

I Dont get all the people downvoting, .ml is literally the best instance to filter out all the Nazis coming from reddit and twitter

How about the instance bans power trips? https://feddit.nl/post/16246531

I'm all in for fediverse.

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Loops will own all your content you post there

Edit: nvm

What I want to say is

Drop the "Free Speech" narrative

~~Nah. There's no "freedom of speech"~~

~~There's more freedom, not not really true free speech~~

~~Want real freedom of speech? Go on Briar Public Forums.~~

~~You can say things like "Kill [insert name of prominent individual here]" and your comments will stay up.~~

~~There is zero censorship.~~

~~The down side is that, the userbase is like less than 100 (I assume) and there's barely any activity.~~

Ew fuck nazis. My point is, stop advocating for nazis to come here. We don't want "free speech", we want a safe space for non-fascists. Don't advertise it as "free speech" because thats not what this place is.

This graphic is where I found out about lemmy and brought me here!

Should be "no known corporate" tracking or something along those lines.

By interacting with social media, you are creating a trail, such as I do now.

But in the fediverse, no known entity is granted access to that data as a business model or known force.

And post banned on that subreddit for mentioning a r*ddit alternative in 3... 2... 1...

Not sure if LW is the best choice as for some people it's very slow: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/36299751

[–] sudoku@programming.dev 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

it would be really nice if Lemmy.world closed their registrations and ability to create new communities so other instances could catch up...

Yeah, i guess https://join-lemmy.org/ is a project under development.
